Case Officer for the Unit for Language, National Minorities and Archives, Ministry of Culture

Are you a socially engaged case officer who wants to work at the intersection of politics, administration, and societal development? Do you thrive driving processes in a complex environment? As a case officer at the Ministry of Culture, you will work on important issues concerning national minorities and contribute to the development of national minority policy at both national and international levels.

The Ministry of Culture is responsible for issues relating to culture, democracy, media, the national minorities, and the language and culture of the Sami people. The Unit for Language, National Minorities and Archives (SNA) is responsible for language issues, issues concerning national minorities and the language and culture of the indigenous Sami people, as well as archive issues, intangible cultural heritage, remembrance issues regarding the Holocaust, and certain museums. The unit also coordinates research issues within the ministry.

Your working day. Sweden's tomorrow.

The duties primarily involve handling cases related to national minorities. As a case officer, you will independently drive processes, prepare cases, and draft materials for political leadership. The work includes analysis, investigation, development work, and follow-up of the unit's issues. You are expected to lead meetings and hold dialogues with external actors, such as national minority organizations. It may become relevant to work on preparations for and participation in international meetings within the framework of, for example, the EU and the Council of Europe. Administrative tasks occur. The tasks sometimes need to be carried out under time pressure, so you should enjoy working in conditions where you must be prepared for the unexpected.

The work takes place in continuous and close dialogue with both your manager and the ministry's leadership, as well as colleagues within the ministry. You will also have a dialogue with other ministries, agencies, and organizations within civil society. We offer a job that is developing and varied with many contact surfaces.

Your background

We are looking for you who have a relevant academic degree or other academic education that we assess as relevant for the duties. You also have a couple of years of current experience in case-handling duties relevant to the position in an authority or public administration relevant to the position. Furthermore, you have good knowledge of Swedish societal life and public administration, and a good understanding of the requirements placed on work in a politically directed organization. You have good skills in the Office package and a good ability to express yourself orally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English.

If you also have experience in case-handling work within the Government Offices, experience in working with or knowledge of issues concerning human rights and/or national minorities, experience in working with complex issues where there are different interests, and experience in working with the EU and international organizations, we consider this meritorious.

Your qualities

The Government Offices' employee criteria are holistic view, development, and results. Everyone working at the Government Offices needs to have a holistic view and collaborate for the benefit of the operations. You are expected to contribute your perspective and competence and be open to others. You will bring ideas and new approaches to improve and develop the operations and your own competence. You are results-oriented in your actions and adapt when needs and direction change.

Additionally, you need to be self-reliant, structured, receptive, and quality-conscious. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
