The Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, and infection and immunobiology. The activities take place on-site in our laboratories and are characterized by both an international environment and a complex operation that places high demands on service, precision, and administrative routines. The department is one of the larger ones with approximately 180 employees and students, and the administrative group to which this role belongs currently consists of 8 employees. We are now looking for an economist for a fixed-term contract until 2027-01-31, responsible for economic project reporting and follow-up, as well as handling invoices, together with our two other economists in the administrative group.
Responsibilities
The role is broad and varied, and as an economist with us, you will have a central role in the department's operations. This position is focused on economic budgeting and follow-up of researchers' various project portfolios, handling and accounting for invoices, and other economic administrative routines occurring within the role and group, in close contact with our researchers, the central finance department, and other colleagues at the department. Main responsibilities include:
- Ongoing reporting, budgeting, and quarterly economic follow-up as well as forecasts in our researchers' project portfolios in close contact with our research group leaders and other colleagues.
- Participation in annual accounts and budget work in researchers' project portfolios.
- Handling, accounting for, and reviewing invoices and expense claims.
- Advisory role regarding questions about expense claims, representation, and other economic administrative issues from researchers and other colleagues.
As we are a small work group, we are also expected to help each other with tasks during absences and peak work periods, and other administrative tasks within the unit may occur.
To thrive in this role, you enjoy working in a research-oriented environment, are self-motivated, and can prioritize your tasks based on peak work periods/needs. It is also an advantage if you are meticulous as a person but flexible in thinking outside the box when needed. The role involves close collaboration with both the administrative manager, colleagues in the group, and researchers at the department, which requires a positive and solution-oriented approach and that you as a person find it easy to collaborate with different roles within the department and can communicate economic routines with simplicity and clarity.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who want to work in an international and dynamic research environment with many contact surfaces and who:
- Are meticulous, self-motivated, responsible, and thrive in a role where you work in a solution-oriented manner and maintain order with high integrity and service.
- Speak and write fluently in Swedish and English as many of our researchers are English-speaking.
- Have experience with the Office 365 suite.
- Have documented good collaboration skills.
- Have experience from working with accounting, invoicing, and project economics in a research environment within higher education/university/region or other public sector operations.
- Have an education in accounting or equivalent experience that the employer considers relevant for the position.
