About American High School, Gothenburg

Located on Lindholmen, next to the Karlatornet, is our newly built school where we moved in the autumn of 2024. Approximately 590 students attend the school, studying on the Natural Science, Technology, Business, or Social Science programs. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English by a competent and driven teaching staff. There is a strong sense of community within the staff.

About the Position

As a Study and Career Counselor, you work with individual coaching and guidance for our students. You handle the enrollment of new students, follow up on our school queue, and maintain contact with new students and guardians. You are responsible for continuously monitoring students' graduation forecasts in each grade, managing reporting to CSN (the Swedish Board for Student Finance), and handling other tasks included in the SYV (Study and Career Counselor) role.

You work closely with the school's student health team (EHT) in promotional and preventive work. The EHT includes a school nurse, counselor, special needs educator, and the principal.

The role also involves some administration and work in various administrative systems such as Admentum, StudyBee, and Google Drive. As a Study and Career Counselor, you primarily work from the front desk where you have most of your conversations with students. You will also have access to a back office for handling certain administrative tasks.

The position is a permanent employment of 50-100%, with an initial probation period of 6 months. Start date as soon as possible or according to agreement.

Your Profile

We are looking for you who are educated as a Study and Career Counselor, with a degree, and preferably you who also have at least a couple of years of experience working as a Study and Career Counselor. It is also meritorious if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in coaching and guiding students, as well as experience working closely with the student health team. You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing, and you have stable digital competence.

You have a professional approach in meetings with students, colleagues, and guardians, and good insight into people's different prerequisites. You find it easy to collaborate and create good working relationships with a coaching and mentoring approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented, unpretentious, and flexible. You see possibilities and you always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overall positive approach.
