The position is within the subject of Information Technology, which at University West is defined as the study of how information is represented, processed, and communicated in artificial and natural systems, as well as how information technology systems are used and developed to achieve usable system solutions for individuals, organizations, or society. The subject of Information Technology is in a phase of expansion, and we are looking for more employees who want to help develop our operations in both teaching and research!
Your Role
The position of Assistant Lecturer is a qualifying appointment aimed at leading to promotion to a permanent position as a Lecturer. The Assistant Lecturer is given the opportunity to develop an independent research profile and to qualify scientifically and pedagogically to meet the eligibility requirements for the position of Lecturer.
The appointment is fixed-term for four years and is full-time. An individually adapted development plan is drawn up to support the Assistant Lecturer's qualification. During the appointment, the Assistant Lecturer may apply for promotion to Lecturer when the eligibility requirements are met. Upon approved promotion, the appointment becomes permanent.
You will be employed at the Department of Data and System Science and will be part of the research group Interaction Lab. Within Interaction Lab, research is conducted with a pronounced user-centered profile, with a strong focus on autonomous systems and human-robot interaction. Within this specific area, you will gradually be able to develop your own research direction, for example towards interaction with industrial robots, interaction with social robots, or driver assistance in cars. You are also expected to contribute to teaching in Information Technology at undergraduate and advanced levels.
The main tasks within the appointment are:
- Research on human interaction with autonomous systems.
- Teaching in Information Technology.
Additional tasks may be included in the position.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A PhD in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent scientific competence. Preference will be given to those who have completed their PhD or reached equivalent competence no more than five years before the application deadline.
- Documented ability to express themselves orally and in writing in English.
- Documented ability to collaborate.
We will also value the following assessment criteria during the appointment:
Of highest importance are:
- The degree of skill required for eligibility.
- Experience in research in human-robot interaction, human-computer interaction, or user experience design.
- Good ability to independently plan and organize work.
Of next highest importance are:
- Experience in research on human interaction with autonomous systems.
- Good knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
- Ability to competitively seek and obtain external research funding.
- Good ability to establish contacts and networks.
- Good ability to plan, conduct, and examine education.
Also of importance are:
- Good ability to express themselves orally and in writing in Swedish.
- Good administrative skill.
- Ability to supervise students at undergraduate and advanced levels.
Type of Employment: The appointment is fixed-term for four years. An Assistant Lecturer has the right during the appointment to apply for promotion to Lecturer when they have achieved such eligibility. Upon approved promotion, the appointment becomes permanent.
