Description of the position

The position is located at the Department of Biology, Division of Functional Ecology, where a research group specializing in fisheries ecology forms the immediate scientific environment. The division consists of approximately 65 employees with broad and multifaceted competencies and varying research focuses. The international research group comprises around ten researchers with expertise in evolutionary biology, ecology, and conservation biology, with a particular focus on fish and fish populations.

The doctoral position is based at Lund University, while the international research group's network creates opportunities to conduct parts of the research project in collaboration with other universities. The work environment is characterized by openness, collaboration, and dynamism, providing excellent conditions for scientific exchange and interdisciplinary contacts within a broad spectrum of biological research questions.

Being a PhD Student

As a PhD student, you are both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University.

As a doctoral student, you are trained in a scientific approach. This can briefly be described as gaining practice in thinking critically and analytically, solving problems independently through appropriate methodological choices, and developing an awareness of research ethics. Additionally, as a PhD student, you are given the opportunity to work on projects, develop your leadership skills, and enhance your pedagogical abilities. Throughout your studies, you are guided by supervisors. The doctoral studies conclude with a thesis and a doctoral degree.
