Job Responsibilities

The position primarily involves research and development in aerosol technology and nanoparticle synthesis. The researcher will play a central role in developing advanced experimental methods and research infrastructure for the production of nanoparticle-based materials.

The specific research project focuses on leading the design, construction, and testing of a new aerosol nanoparticle system to further develop aerosol-based methods for producing nanoparticle materials. The main responsibility includes the development, optimization, and integration of aerosol instrumentation for controlling aerosol formation processes. The work also involves simulation, design, testing, and construction of an aerosol nanoparticle generator based on spark discharge.

The researcher is expected to take a leading role in the project, including planning and coordinating research activities, supervising doctoral students and master's thesis students, and maintaining active collaborations with industry partners and international research groups.

In addition to method development, the project includes research aimed at increasing the understanding of how nanoparticle properties affect catalytic performance. This work involves nanoparticle characterization using advanced analytical techniques, including electron microscopy.

The researcher will also serve as a resource within the research group regarding aerosol instrumentation, aerosol measurements, and aerosol processes, contributing to knowledge dissemination and competence development within the group.

The responsibilities include:

  • Research and development in aerosol technology for the production of new nanoparticle-based materials.
  • Development and maintenance of software solutions for integration, automation, control, and data acquisition in the experimental aerosol nanoparticle system.
  • Planning, coordination, and leadership of research activities within the project, as well as supervision of doctoral students, master's thesis students, and other students.
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborations with industry partners and international research groups.
  • Research related to nanoparticle characterization and catalytic applications.
  • Participation in teaching and educational activities at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels as needed.
  • Participation in procurement and development of research infrastructure and laboratory equipment.
  • Preparation of reports, scientific publications, research proposals, and project-related administration.

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a researcher is one who has completed a doctoral degree.

Requirements for the position are:

  • Completed doctoral degree in physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, or another relevant field for the position.
  • Very good proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Strong scientific background in aerosol science, aerosol technology, nanoparticle synthesis, or related research areas.
  • Practical experience and theoretical knowledge of aerosol instrumentation and aerosol processes.
  • Documented experience in planning, coordinating, and leading research projects.
  • Documented experience in the design, construction, operation, and characterization of experimental systems for generating, measuring, and analyzing engineered nanoparticles.
  • Experience in software development for scientific instrumentation, including data acquisition, instrument control, automation, and system integration.
  • Good skills in MATLAB and Python for scientific programming, data analysis, and experimental control.
  • Experience in nanoparticle characterization using electron microscopy techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), as well as analysis of nanoparticle morphology and properties.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to research collaborations with academic and industrial partners.

Merits for the position include:

  • Experience in nanoparticle generation using spark discharge or similar aerosol-based synthesis methods.
  • Experience in nanoparticle characterization using advanced analytical techniques.
  • Experience with CAD software for the design and development of experimental equipment and research infrastructure.
  • Experience in scientific writing, publishing research results, and preparing research proposals.
  • Experience in teaching and educational activities related to aerosol technology, nanoparticle synthesis, or experimental research methods.

Other Information

The employment as a researcher is fixed-term for the period 2026-09-25 to 2027-09-24 with a 50% position. Researchers are covered by the "Local Collective Agreement on Annual Working Hours for Researchers and Assistant Researchers." The planning of annual working hours is done in dialogue between the manager and the employee.

How to Apply

The application should include a CV and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how it matches your qualifications. The application must include a certificate of doctoral degree and may also include other supporting documents (copies of grades, contact details for references, recommendation letters, etc.).

We look forward to receiving your application!
