Description
Gårdtens School's Adapted Comprehensive School is a school for students with intellectual disabilities. Here, we work based on each student's individual needs and prerequisites.
We have three classes: Subject Areas 4-9 with 7 students, Class 4-6 Subjects with 4 students, and Class 6-9 Subjects with 9 students.
We are now looking for a special needs teacher who works with students in the Subject Areas track.
The school is located at Angeredsvinkeln 21, close to the nature areas of Vättlefjäll and Lärjeån, as well as Angered Center. It is easy to get here by bus and tram. Our students require good collaboration skills with guardians and other actors outside the school to create a holistic view of the students' needs. Our students are at an early developmental level and have significant care and self-care needs.
Responsibilities
As a special needs teacher, you work to teach and challenge students through your instruction to reach their full potential and knowledge development. Your task is to design and adapt teaching to meet the students' specific needs and to guide teaching assistants in supporting the student. For our students, it is important with a low-affective approach, AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication), and clarifying pedagogy.
The position involves teaching in the Subject Areas class 4-9, where you are responsible for planning, implementation, analysis, and information regarding the pedagogical work. You are the grading teacher for the Adapted Comprehensive School's curriculum for Subject Areas and may also collaborate with colleagues on the Adapted Comprehensive School's curriculum for subjects. Both teachers and teaching assistants work in your team.
We share the school building with the comprehensive school, which gives us good conditions for cooperation between the comprehensive school and the Adapted Comprehensive School. We co-plan, cooperate, and co-assess to create a safe and developing learning environment, and you contribute to driving the operations forward.
Our teaching is experience-based, where play and learning go hand in hand. For example, we work with multisensory music drama, student café, and BiM (Body in Music). As a special needs teacher, you are responsible for the students' knowledge development by mapping their pedagogical and didactic needs and translating this into pedagogical practice.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a qualified special needs teacher with a focus on intellectual disabilities or are expected to graduate as a special needs teacher within 6 months. You have good knowledge of didactics, good subject knowledge, and good familiarity with - and ability to work from - the Adapted Comprehensive School's steering documents.
You have digital competence and the ability to support our students with the help of digital tools. The role requires that you can express yourself freely in Swedish, both orally and in writing. We also see that you have knowledge of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). It is meritorious if you have knowledge of tactile communication.
You have the ability to critically and independently analyze, take initiative for, and participate in preventive and promoting work. You contribute to removing obstacles and difficulties in different learning environments to achieve increased goal fulfillment.
As a person, you are confident in leading other adults, are receptive, and offer participation. By being interested and creating understanding for others, you work for a respectful work climate.
You demonstrate and have very good cooperation skills with all colleagues.
You should teach students skillfully and capture their interests. In the meeting with each individual student, you make a difference to strive for increased goal fulfillment. You show with a big heart that you see every student. You are positive, idea-rich, and have humor. Finally, you are open, have great patience, and the ability to see the whole picture regarding the students.
