At Stora Holm on Hisingen, there are two municipal adapted upper secondary schools that are part of the Education Administration in the City of Gothenburg. Stora Holm AG1 mainly offers national vocational preparatory programs. Our three programs are: Property, infrastructure and construction, Vehicle care and cargo handling, and Forestry, land and animals. The school is located in a calm and nature-oriented environment with open spaces, well adapted to the programs we offer.

Job Responsibilities

Do you want to make a real difference for young people heading into adulthood and are really sharp with vehicles? To our adapted upper secondary school, we are now looking for a licensed and driven vocational teacher who wants to educate our students in the Vehicle Care and Cargo Handling program. Here, you have the opportunity to combine your professional competence with special pedagogy in a practical and supportive learning environment. In this role, you will educate our students in practical and theoretical subjects for vehicle care and cargo handling, while also preparing them for working life.

An adapted upper secondary school is a distinct school form with its own steering documents, and we work based on each student's individual needs, development, opportunities, and prerequisites. All students have an intellectual disability and are at different developmental levels with different backgrounds, which requires the ability to adapt teaching to the students' unique conditions and needs. In our teaching, we use various aids such as visual support, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), and sign support.

Your teaching will primarily be within the courses: Vehicle Technology, The Vehicle Industry, Cargo Handling-Forklift, Wheelchair Equipment and Refurbishing, and Traffic Participant Knowledge. You are good at creating a clear structure and a facilitating environment for students with intellectual disabilities and NPD (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) diagnoses.

You plan, conduct, and evaluate the teaching in the practical subjects you are responsible for. As a teacher with us, you are part of a work team consisting of other educators, special needs teachers, instructors, and student assistants. Together, you collaborate with our student health team and school management regarding students' goal fulfillment, systematic quality work, and the unit's overarching operational issues. Your duties include supervising student assistants, planning and conducting teaching, and collaborating with other colleagues. You will be a mentor for a group of students in the program. In addition to the student-focused work, we have close cooperation with guardians, contacts at workplace placements (APL), habilitation services, and other external contacts. APL (Workplace-based learning) is included throughout the entire education period and implies good contacts and collaboration with the business community.

Qualifications

Licensed vocational teacher with eligibility to teach within the Vehicle Care and Cargo Handling program. Knowledge and understanding of the student group is a requirement, as well as a good ability to adapt your approach and communication to the person you meet. You have the ability to build good relationships and communicate well with students, guardians, colleagues in the work team, and other staff. You have experience working with low-affective approaches and clarifying pedagogy. You are secure, flexible, and solution-focused.

Requirement of at least one year of experience working with youth in adapted schools or several years of relevant experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities and/or multiple disabilities.

The work requires good competence in common digital tools. It is meritorious to have good knowledge and contacts from the industry.

Meritorious if you have traffic teacher education, forklift instructor education, and ADR certification.

Other

We can offer you, if you are not a licensed vocational teacher, the opportunity to study at 20% of a full-time position with maintained salary for further education that leads to current licensure and eligibility, based on the operation's needs. The school also purchases current course literature.

For your interview, you need to bring a passport/national ID and possibly proof of residence permit if you have citizenship outside the EU/EEA. This is because as an employer, we need to verify your identity and ensure that you have the right to work in Sweden.

In reference to the laws regulating register checks, the person offered this position must present an extract from the criminal record register before an employment contract can be drawn up.
