Job Responsibilities

The goal of the education is a doctoral degree in the history of ideas and learning. Education at the research level consists partly of courses, which are examined as they go, and partly of independent research work that should lead to a scientific dissertation. During the education, the doctoral student should communicate scientific results both orally and in writing.

The goal of the doctoral employment is for the doctoral student to develop the knowledge and skills required to independently conduct research in the history of ideas and learning, and to contribute to the development of knowledge within the subject through the production of a scientific dissertation. A doctoral position in the history of ideas and learning also aims for the doctoral student to develop the ability to translate achieved scientific skills and knowledge into continued research work or other qualified professional work.

The doctoral student must be physically present at the workplace and interact actively in the doctoral education environment, which includes active participation in doctoral and research seminars at the department. The department's working language is Swedish, while some activities may be in English. To be admitted to the doctoral education, knowledge of Swedish and English is required to the extent necessary to benefit from mandatory course moments and actively participate in seminars and similar activities. If needed, the university offers introductory courses in Swedish. The dissertation may be written in Swedish or English, or alternatively Norwegian or Danish.

The university works actively for a working environment with equal conditions and values the qualities that diversity brings to the operations. The university applies individual salary setting. According to the National Archives' regulations, the university is obliged to keep application documents for two years after the appointment decision. If you as an applicant for a position specifically request your documents back, they will be returned when the two years have passed; otherwise, they will be destroyed. To staffing and recruitment agencies and to you who are sellers: The University of Gothenburg uses a procured advertising agency in connection with the recruitment of staff. We kindly but firmly decline direct contact with staffing and recruitment agencies as well as sellers of job advertisements.
