At the center of the action stands JMG, the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication. The department is located at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Gothenburg University and is one of the most well-regarded departments in the Nordic region in its field, with both breadth and depth in research and education. At JMG, teaching is conducted at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as doctoral level education.
JMG is now seeking guest lecturers for intermittent employment (hourly employment) for the upcoming academic year HT26/VT27.
Guest lecturers are sought to ensure education in close contact with the industry, as well as to strengthen staffing during the absence of regular personnel. JMG is seeking guest lecturers for the bachelor's and master's programs in journalism, for standalone courses in journalism, and for the bachelor's and master's programs in media and communication studies.
For the upcoming academic year, we have a need for guest lecturers in the following areas:
- Supervision and examination of degree theses
- Automated methods for collecting and analyzing media content data with applications within media and communication studies
- Strategic communication from a scientific and applied perspective, preferably with a special focus on the non-profit sector
- The structural conditions of news media and the prerequisites for editorial work in digital media culture
- Editorial work and narrative forms of journalism in digital channels
Job Responsibilities
The duties of a guest lecturer may consist of various forms of teaching, lectures, workshops, seminars, or supervision in journalism, media, and communication. Primarily at the undergraduate level, but advanced levels may also occur.
Qualifications
You are expected to have experience in teaching such as lectures, workshops, seminars, or supervision, as well as have your own experience and education within journalism, media, and communication or another subject area relevant to JMG.
For teaching within the journalism program, you are expected to have good knowledge of journalistic and ethical issues.
For teaching within media and communication studies, we would prefer that you have a PhD in a relevant subject.
In addition, great importance is attached to administrative skill and the ability to structure teaching or supervision. You are expected to have good communication skills in speech and writing in Swedish and/or English, depending on the language of instruction of the current course. In addition to the skills assessment, great importance is attached to personal suitability and teamwork ability. We will primarily consider applicants who, after a holistic assessment, are deemed to have the best prerequisites for carrying out the described job responsibilities.
Employment
Intermittent employment, number of hours according to agreement. The work can take place during the period 2026-08-24—2027-06-30.
In the case of intermittent employment, an agreement is drawn up which constitutes a framework agreement for the entire period. You then choose to accept or decline occasions where work is offered. Each work occasion constitutes a new employment relationship. Worked hours are reported to the employer via the form GU/Timarvode.
