Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?
The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institutet consists of seven divisions and operates in many areas of laboratory medicine to promote human health in the short and long term. The department has a close collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and conducts advanced basic scientific, clinical, and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest educational institutions at Karolinska Institutet.
Currently, the Division of Clinical Immunology is seeking a highly ambitious and motivated research assistant with education in biomedicine or similar, and practical experience in laboratory work. You will join Sidinh Luc's research group, which studies the function and regulation of hematopoietic stem cells, as well as the mechanisms behind the emergence of leukemic stem cells. In the project, you will primarily work with hematopoietic stem cells from a leukemic model carrying the BCR-ABL1 oncogene, which is the primary cause of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). CML usually affects older individuals. Therefore, an important aspect of the project is to investigate how stem cell aging affects leukemia development by analyzing bone marrow samples from older healthy donors and patients with leukemia.
Your role
As a research assistant, you will have a varied and responsible assignment. You will be responsible for genotyping and also for organizing and handling shared laboratory reagents. You will regularly perform flow cytometric analyses to test and optimize new reagents, as well as work with cell isolation. Experimental work with animal models is an important part of the role. Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are crucial for success in the role. You also have the ability to contribute positively to the research environment through collaboration, engagement, and curiosity. The ideal candidate has a strong and genuine interest in research and sees a future within doctoral education.
Who are you?
Required qualifications
- At least a master's degree in molecular and cell biology, biomedicine, or medicine
- Very good knowledge of English, both oral and written
Desirable qualifications
