When you work at the County Administrative Board, you get to use your knowledge at the country's broadest authority. The County Administrative Board is the state's representative in the county and ensures that national goals are implemented. Taking regional conditions into account, we make trade-offs between different societal interests. This is done through collaboration between experts in various fields and in cooperation with authorities, municipalities, and organizations.

At the County Administrative Board, we create societal benefits and influence social development every day. It is an important mission, a great responsibility, and an inspiring opportunity. Let your knowledge become a force for Östergötland.

We are looking for

One or more case officers for the restoration of water and wetland environments.

Do you want to make a difference for our environment? We are now strengthening the water unit with several case officers, and together with knowledgeable colleagues, you will be able to make a difference for the environment, for nature, and for us humans. We work towards established regional environmental goals through water management, environmental monitoring, inventory, and restoration of water environments, fishing issues, as well as supervision and processing of water activities.

You will belong to

The water unit, which consists of 32 people, and together we are happy to try new working methods and are open to innovative solutions within our area of expertise. We are at the forefront of international collaboration through EU projects. In the Department of Environment and Nature, to which the unit belongs, colleagues work on other exciting assignments such as supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, supervision and remediation of contaminated areas, establishment and management of nature reserves, and biotope protection. Cross-sector collaboration is a natural part of our operations, and with us, you will have the opportunity to both benefit from other colleagues' expert competencies and contribute to the cases where your expertise is needed.

Your tasks

The government has decided on a large, nationwide investment in the restoration and new establishment of wetlands. In addition, extensive work is underway to restore other water environments as part of the environmental goals work, water management, and in the future with the support of the new restoration law. The County Administrative Board plays a central role in the work of restoring water and wetland environments, which are crucial for improving biodiversity, reducing eutrophication, and strengthening ecosystems' ability to handle climate change.

In light of this, the water unit is seeking several case officers to work on the restoration of water environments such as wetlands and watercourses. You will collaborate with colleagues to drive your own restoration projects of drained wetlands and physically affected watercourses and participate in the unit's general water conservation work. We work to restore the water balance in previously drained wetlands, which means that ditches are filled in or water levels are raised with the help of dams and regulation devices. Projects may also include restoring straightened watercourses, creating spawning grounds for fish, and restoring fish migration past obstacles such as dams. Wetlands are also often used as natural filters to reduce nutrient input to lakes and seas.

The work involves having landowner contacts and procuring consulting and contracting services, as well as, depending on expertise, preparing materials for environmental impact assessments, revocation of land drainage companies, orders for hydrological studies, and detailed planning of work projects. The work involves a lot of internal collaboration within the County Administrative Board's operations but also many external contacts with, for example, other authorities, municipalities, landowners, and interest organizations. Previous experience and personal interest can influence the design of your tasks.

Mandatory requirements for the position:

  • You have a university degree in biology/geoscience/ecology/limnology with a focus on nature and water conservation or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • You have at least one year of relevant work experience for the role.
  • You have documented experience working in GIS/ArcGIS.
  • You have good knowledge of the provisions of the Environmental Code.
  • You have a B driver's license (the work involves travel).

Desirable:

  • If you possess some legal expertise and knowledge of environmental impact assessments and permit reviews, as measures in water and wetland environments may need to be judicially reviewed.
  • If you have experience in project management.

As a person:

  • You have a high ability to collaborate, as you work well with other people. You relate to them in a responsive and smooth manner. You listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • You are structured, as you plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively. You set and adhere to deadlines.
  • You are self-driven, as you take responsibility for your task. You structure your approach and drive your processes forward.
  • You are persistent, as you remain motivated and effective despite setbacks and disappointments. You work until projects are completed or results are achieved.
  • You are clear, as you communicate in a clear manner. You ensure that messages are conveyed and that expectations are clear for all parties involved. You remind and follow up.
