Do you want to contribute to strengthening Sweden's defense capabilities while being at the center of the action? Are you interested in leading planning work at a central and strategic level? The Support Unit of the Defense Staff at the Supreme Headquarters is seeking an experienced and versatile Planning Leader who can contribute to the Swedish Armed Forces' growth and capability development.
About the Support Unit of the Defense Staff
The Defense Staff supports the Supreme Commander in handling and preparing matters at the military strategic level, and ensures that decisions made by the agency's management are implemented, followed up, and reported back. The Support Unit of the Defense Staff has overall responsibility for directing and following up the Swedish Armed Forces' combined logistics and materiel supply, development, acquisition, maintenance, and decommissioning of infrastructure, as well as the Armed Forces' supply flows and planning of host-nation support.
Main Responsibilities
The duties involve ensuring that planning, implementation, and follow-up are cohesive within the unit's area of operation through active and clear leadership.
The role requires a good understanding of and experience in strategic planning, implementation planning, preparing budget proposals, and quarterly and annual reporting.
Other duties as determined by the employer may be added.
Furthermore, the duties include handling a wide range of contacts within and outside the agency, with a focus on the Swedish Armed Forces' growth and capability development.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Relevant advanced academic education, e.g., political science or economics
- Several years of current and relevant work experience in strategic planning, implementation planning, preparing budget proposals, and quarterly and annual reporting
- Experience in strategic business development
- Experience working with security-classified information
- Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English
- Very good proficiency and experience with MS Office, especially Excel

Given the nature of the work, there is a requirement to build and maintain good relationships, as well as having strong structural skills where the work will be characterized by a holistic view in a context that is often detailed. You should have good initiative, drawing relevant conclusions in a solution-oriented manner and driving the agency's work forward. You need to be flexible in your work and able to work through changes, sometimes rapid transitions.

MERITORIOUS QUALIFICATIONS
- Military education or experience of Armed Forces operations
- Education in Military Science
- Knowledge of NATO planning and assessment methods

Employment type: Permanent (The Swedish Armed Forces applies a six-month probationary period for those not already employed by the agency).

The Supreme Headquarters has approximately 1,000 employees – both professional officers and civilian experts. As of 2023-01-01, the Supreme Headquarters consists of the Defense Staff, the Operations Command, the Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the Supreme Headquarters' Staff Department and independent oversight units. Employment with us implies placement in a security-classified position. Swedish citizenship is usually required.
