Valdemarsro Gymnasium is seeking a Special Needs Teacher specializing in intellectual disabilities to teach on individual programs within the adapted upper secondary school. The position is located at our newly opened school unit, Valdemarsro Segepark. Join us and help shape the future of Malmö's residents and society!

Job Responsibilities

As a Special Needs Teacher at Valdemarsro Segepark, our newly opened school unit affiliated with Valdemarsro Gymnasium, you will work closely with a small group of students on the individual program within the adapted upper secondary school.

In your role, you lead the pedagogical work and collaborate closely with the school's student assistants. You design instruction based on the students' individual needs and plan and implement pedagogical activities in accordance with current guidelines for adapted upper secondary schools. Your duties also include mentoring a group of students, where you are responsible for both the group's and the individual student's development.

Together with your colleagues, you work to ensure that every student achieves the best possible development, both academically and socially. The role may also involve care and self-care tasks, including physical activities. The work is carried out in close collaboration with other professions and in good cooperation with guardians and external partners. In your role, you actively contribute to the development of the operations by engaging with and applying pedagogical research to strengthen student learning.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Pre-school teacher, teacher, or youth pedagogical degree, plus additional training as a Special Needs Teacher specializing in intellectual disabilities
  • Experience working with children and young people with disabilities
  • Experience teaching students with neuropsychiatric disabilities
  • Experience with external contacts and collaboration with staff, students, guardians, habilitation services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (BUP), Individual and Family Care, and LSS functions
  • Experience using digital tools in educational contexts
  • Good understanding of school goals and guidelines
  • Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written.

Merits:

  • Experience teaching in adapted school forms or with students in need of special support
  • Experience working with students exhibiting challenging behavior
  • Experience working with clarifying pedagogy
  • Knowledge and experience in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and sign language
  • Good habit of collaborating with other authorities and participating in various networks.

As a Special Needs Teacher, you handle complex pedagogical issues and find solutions that support students' learning and development. You have a deep understanding of how people acquire knowledge and adapt instruction to individual needs and conditions. Furthermore, you are flexible, see opportunities in change, and use new information to develop teaching and working methods. Through a relational and inclusive approach, you collaborate closely with students, colleagues, and other professionals to create good learning environments. You value differences and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect oneself and others.
