Subject area for the position: Business Administration with a focus on Logistics
Location: Växjö. Since Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between the locations is included.
Duration and period of employment: The employment is fixed-term according to the Swedish Higher Education Act (Chapter 5, Section 7). The position is full-time.
The Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 5, Paragraph 2) states that those employed as doctoral students should primarily devote themselves to their own doctoral studies. However, a doctoral student may, to a limited extent, work with education, research, and administration. Such work may, before the doctoral degree has been awarded, not exceed 20 percent of full doctoral working time.
Start date: 2026-10-01 or by agreement.
Job Description
The doctoral student is expected to complete their dissertation work within logistics, focusing on the forest supply chain and its resilience to disruptions for long-term sustainability. The research will investigate how actors can adapt to and benefit from technological innovations to strengthen their resilience. By analyzing challenges and opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, the research contributes to strategies that promote a sustainable forest supply chain. The focus is on small and medium-sized actors in Småland, with the aim of creating knowledge about new technologies, e.g., machine learning. The research aims to develop solutions for a sustainable and resilient forest supply chain.

The PhD program in Business Administration at Linnaeus University comprises four years of funded full-time studies. The student will study a total of 240 higher education credits (hp), of which 90 hp are courses and the dissertation work is 150 hp.

The applicant admitted to doctoral studies will participate in a doctoral school, GATE – Graduate School of Advanced Technology and Enterprising, and work with companies in Småland. The GATE doctoral school is a unique interdisciplinary initiative from the School of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University. The purpose of the doctoral school is to handle challenges that globalization, new technology such as automation, digitalization, and AI, as well as environmental and climate problems, entail for businesses. The practical relevance of the dissertation area and research questions will be discussed in collaboration with companies in Småland.

Qualifications
Basic eligibility is held by those who
- have completed an advanced level degree
- have completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level, or
- in some other way, within or outside the country, have acquired mainly equivalent knowledge.
Special eligibility is held by those who:
- have at least 90 higher education credits in the subject of business administration, or subjects related to doctoral education in business administration, or have equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way, within or outside Sweden
- have at least 60 higher education credits at an advanced level in logistics/supply chain management
- have demonstrated good knowledge in English and demonstrated good skills in expressing themselves in speech and writing in Swedish.
Selection Criteria
Selection is made with regard to the applicant's ability to benefit from education at the doctoral level. In the assessment, account is taken of scientific proficiency documented in academic works, course grades, assessment of the applicant's prerequisites for carrying out the education at the doctoral level, as well as the relevance, originality, and feasibility of the dissertation plan.

The application should include:
(i) A brief description of yourself and what you are interested in, a motivation for why you want to undergo doctoral education, as well as a statement of merits and experience relevant to the education and research task; (ii) CV/merit list; (iii) certified copies of grades and certificates regarding language skills; (iv) contact details for two academic reference persons; (v) copy of advanced level thesis (or equivalent) and any publications; (vi) completed application form for doctoral education and (vii) a preliminary research plan of 3-5 pages. The plan should describe the planned research and how it connects to research within logistics with a focus on the forest supply chain as well as technological development, business ideas, and entrepreneurship conducted at the newly established doctoral school.
