Our special needs upper secondary school is growing, and we are now looking for you who want to work with us at our unit located at Ösby Naturbruksgymnasium.

Do you have a strong focus on students and are you a relational teacher with the ability to adapt your teaching to the students' needs? Then this job is for you!

About the workplace

Ösby Naturbruksgymnasium is located approximately one mile outside of Sala and is run by the municipality. The school has approximately 270 students, of whom approximately 35 attend the special needs upper secondary school.

At Ösby Naturbruksgymnasium, we are proud to be a school with educated, knowledgeable staff and goal-oriented students. Our strength lies in our ability to be flexible and solution-focused, to keep the student in focus, and to view all students as everyone's students.

The school has a student health team consisting of an assistant principal, school nurse, school psychologist, counselor, and special education teacher. Everyone should feel safe and significant. Our value system is based on a positive approach and the belief that every student develops best through a positive self-image. Therefore, we place great emphasis on strengthening students' self-esteem so that they can benefit from the education in the best possible way.

The National Program at Ösby offers a vocational preparatory education primarily focused on agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, vehicle maintenance, logistics, property, and construction.

On the Individual Program, students study subject areas that include outdoor environment maintenance, feeding, and care of the school's various animals.

On the farm, there are horses, dairy cows, and pigs. The school also has an animal house for small animals, birds, reptiles, fish, and rodents, as well as a small zoo. There is also a greenhouse, a propagation room, a workshop, and a carpentry shop.

Responsibilities

Your role as a vocational teacher includes planning, implementing, and evaluating the pedagogical work, both individually and in teams. You will be part of a team with instructors, student assistants, and other teachers in core subjects and general upper secondary subjects. Together, you are responsible for reaching every individual student and strengthening their knowledge development. We work with positive reinforcement of students' strengths and have a solution-oriented approach.

You engage in collegial exchange with other teachers and have close cooperation with guardians and other professionals within, for example, student health services and habilitation. We want you to be driven by creating good contacts with the surrounding society and, together with your colleagues, to contribute to maintaining high quality in the operations.

The unit for special needs upper secondary school is in a development phase as well as an expansion phase. This gives you great opportunities to influence routines and how the operations should develop. We work from a strong value system regarding young people's civic engagement and the equal value of all individuals, and it is therefore important to us that you share our values. We expect you to want to be part of our vision and develop our goals.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a vocational teacher degree or are currently studying to become a vocational teacher. It is an advantage if you are also a special education teacher.

Alternatively, we are looking for you who are ready to train to become a vocational teacher.

You have experience in caretaking/maintenance with knowledge in construction, such as painting, site construction, masonry, and tiling.

We also see that you have good experience and knowledge of working with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC). It is an advantage if you have experience with students/young people with intellectual disabilities and neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPD). Experience working at a special needs upper secondary school is also an advantage.

We are looking for you who are calm and stable as a person and who can convey this in your learning environment. You are communicative, receptive, and able to choose different approaches to find solutions. You have great patience and the ability to create safety and understanding for each student. Furthermore, you are unpretentious and thrive in an environment where we collaborate and help each other to develop vocational profiles and teaching.

You have a genuine interest in people and the ability to create good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. You should enjoy working with young people in general and be driven by supporting their development towards stronger self-esteem and self-efficacy.

Personal suitability is given great weight.
