to apply for the job

Västerås Municipality has removed the cover letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and more fair recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will become an important part of our selection work.

Do you want to try working in preschool, school, or adapted school forms? We offer a fixed-term position where you gain valuable experience in a learning environment. A great chance to test if the profession suits you while making a difference for children and students every day.

Your responsibilities

As a substitute teacher, you can work in preschools, preschool classes, after-school centers, grades 1-9 in comprehensive schools, and upper secondary schools.

In the role of a preschool substitute, you participate in daily tasks such as gatherings, pedagogical meals, planned activities, singing and story times, and outdoor play. Practical tasks like washing dishes, wiping tables, and preparing or clearing away after meals are also part of the job. In this role, it is important that you focus on working based on the needs of the facility and are flexible in meeting these needs.

In preschool classes, after-school centers, grades 1-9, and upper secondary school, you may work as a resource teacher in a class for one or several students. You should also be prepared to be booked as a resource in adapted comprehensive schools and within our special education groups. Here, you work with supporting and motivating children and students with intellectual disabilities in their learning and social interactions.

Your qualifications

Requirements for one of the following:

  • A vocational degree from the Upper Secondary School program for Children and Leisure, or equivalent completed studies in adult education for Children and Leisure according to the Swedish National Agency for Education's criteria of at least 1,300 credits.
  • A passed Swedish upper secondary education or another education equivalent to Swedish upper secondary education, combined with previous experience in pedagogical work or other work with children/young adults in need of support, which the employer deems relevant.

If you have education such as student assistant, teacher assistant, or resource teacher, we consider this a merit for the position. Previous experience working in preschools/schools/adapted school forms is viewed positively. Great importance is placed on your personal suitability for the assignment. You have the ability to meet children of all ages, motivate them in their learning, create understanding, and take initiative. You are flexible and enjoy collaborating but have no problem working independently. In stressful situations, you remain calm and always strive for high quality in your work and interaction with children/students. To function in the role of a substitute, you must be able to adapt to routines that differ between workplaces.

You must be at least 18 years old. You must speak and write Swedish fluently. This is because, as an hourly substitute, you play an important role in supporting children's language and communication development and ensuring they can use the language in a rich and nuanced way.

Does this sound like something for you? We welcome your application!
