Job Description

As a teaching assistant in microeconomics, you support teachers in teaching, primarily by leading group exercises and providing pedagogical support to students in introductory courses. You help students understand central economic concepts, develop their problem-solving skills, and gain a better understanding of calculations and other moments that are often experienced as challenging, while encouraging reflection and independent thinking. You work closely with the main teachers, observe students' difficulties, and contribute to improving the course's information flow and feedback. Some administrative tasks related to the education may also occur. The role also provides the opportunity for in-depth subject knowledge and the development of communicative and pedagogical skills.

Requirements/Qualifications

Only those admitted to undergraduate or advanced level studies at MDU can be employed as a teaching assistant. A teaching assistant position is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, Sections 8-12.

The teaching is at the G1N level and is conducted in English. Consequently, an advanced ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is mandatory.

Furthermore, the applicant should have a grade of VG (Very Good) or equivalent (B-A, 4-5) in the courses relevant to the position, namely the A-courses in microeconomics (NAA142 and NAA143).

We are looking for someone who:

• Has good skills in academic writing and oral presentation in both Swedish and English.
• Has an interest in theoretical and empirical issues within economics.
• Has studied the courses relevant to the position (NAA142 and NAA143) at MDU.
• Has experience with similar work previously.

• Can work together with both students and teachers, e.g., in teaching situations and course planning.
• Has the ability to follow instructions, adhere to timeframes, and contribute to continuity in teaching.
• Has an interest in the subject and a willingness to support others in their learning, as well as the ability to identify and act on students' needs.
• Is a student-oriented person who serves as a support and motivating force for other students through their own way of working and thinking.
