Job Description
We are currently looking for a substitute University Lecturer in Sociology at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. You will be part of a working group of approximately 50 employees, consisting of sociologists, political scientists, and psychologists. The teaching will primarily focus on social psychological theory, scientific methodology, and thesis supervision.
As a University Lecturer at MDU, your main tasks include teaching in sociological social psychology theory and scientific methods. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. At our university, research and education are closely intertwined, with research forming the foundation of our education. Collaboration is also an integrated part of our research and educational mission, and as a University Lecturer, you will actively contribute to the university's development work. The duties also include general administration, competence development, and participation in daily operations, as well as work within the discipline and the academy.
Since teaching takes place at both our study locations, Västerås and Eskilstuna, travel between these locations is included in the role.
Eligibility Requirements
We are looking for you who have demonstrated pedagogical skill and have either completed a doctoral degree in sociology or a corresponding subject, or possess equivalent scientific competence.
The scientific and pedagogical competence must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.
To be employed as a teacher at MDU, higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge is required. Those who are employed but lack higher education pedagogical training will be offered to undergo such training during employment within two and a half years. The higher education pedagogical training at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of education.
In addition to the requirements established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, the following eligibility requirements apply for this position: You must have good proficiency in Swedish and English.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment criteria shall include the degree of skill required for the position, as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.
In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Employment Regulations at MDU, special weight will be placed on the following for this position:
- Documented independent research,
- Secured external funding,
- Teaching in sociological social psychology,
- Research in work-life sciences and scientific methodology.
In a comprehensive assessment of suitability, personal qualities will also be weighed. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good working environment. It is also important that you can take initiative and have the ability to work independently and in a structured manner.
