Do you want to work at the heart of research and contribute to creating strong research environments? Do you have your own experience of research at a university or college and know what it takes to write a competitive research application? Then the role of Research Advisor at Mittuniversitetet might be your next step.

At Mittuniversitetet's Grants and Innovation Office (GIO), research advisors support the university's researchers throughout the process of external research funding – from strategic orientation in the funding landscape to concrete support in the design of applications. GIO is part of the Department of Research and Educational Support (FUS), where around forty employees with an academic background and specialized competence work together to strengthen the university's research, innovation, internationalization, pedagogical development, and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities

The research advisors at Mittuniversitetet strengthen the university's research environments through strategic advice and active support that leads to increased access to external research funding. We inform and strengthen researchers' knowledge on issues related to research funding, and also offer active support throughout the application phase.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • supporting researchers throughout the pre-award phase through tailored support – from critical review to active participation in the design of applications,
  • organizing workshops and other activities to inform about funding opportunities and offering training in grant writing,
  • monitoring current calls and trends among national funders (with a focus on the Swedish Research Council, Formas, Forte, the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare, the Riksbank's Jubilee Fund, the Wallenberg Foundations, Vinnova) as well as international funders (with a focus on the EU's framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe),
  • spreading information about calls and trends to the university's researchers, both through common communication channels and through personal contact with individual researchers,
  • supporting university management in strategic matters regarding research funding and related political developments, with a particular focus on the Swedish research councils and the EU's framework programme for research and innovation.

The role also includes responsibility for, and significant opportunities to influence, the development of Mittuniversitetet's Grants Office.

Your Background

You have personal experience of research in a subject relevant to Mittuniversitetet and have current knowledge of research conditions and research environments at a university or college. We are looking for someone who:

  • holds a PhD,
  • has experience of applying for research funds and/or assessing applications,
  • has very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.

It is an advantage if you:

  • have good knowledge of the research funding landscape in Sweden and the EU,
  • have experience of research advisory or research support and of conveying knowledge to researchers,
  • have worked in common application portals, especially Prisma and the EU's Funding & Tenders Portal.

Your Skills

We place particular emphasis on your personal qualities. The role of research advisor, with many internal and external contacts, places high demands on teamwork, communication skills, and relationship building.

The role covers a broad spectrum of activities and responsibilities and therefore requires the ability to work independently as well as to organize and prioritize your work.

Finally, the strengthening and development of Mittuniversitetet's Grants Office is an important part of the role. This means that you need to have the ability to collaborate with your colleagues at the Grants Office and within the entire Grants & Innovation Office, as well as an interest in developing the Grants Office's offerings and in continuously strengthening both your own and your colleagues' competence.

Employment and Start Date

The employment is a permanent full-time position with a start date as agreed.
