Job Responsibilities

As a University Lecturer at MDU, your main responsibilities will be teaching. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course and program development. At our university, research and education are closely intertwined, with research forming the foundation of our educational programs. Collaboration is also an integrated part of our research and educational mission, and as a University Lecturer, you will actively contribute to the university's development work. The responsibilities also include general administration and competence development, as well as participation in daily operations, the subject area's work, and academic activities.

You will teach and supervise Swedish with a linguistic and communication focus on standalone Swedish courses, courses within the Language and Communication program, and in the future, possibly on a master's program. You will also teach and supervise Swedish on teacher education programs.

If the competence is available, teaching may also include Swedish as a Second Language or on other programs at the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (e.g., Behavioral Science program, Social Work program, Political Science program).

Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence.

The scientific and pedagogical skill must be documented in such a way that the quality of previous work can be assessed.

To be employed as a teacher at MDU, university pedagogical education or equivalent knowledge is required. Those employed who lack university pedagogical education will be offered to undergo such training within two and a half years of employment. The university pedagogical education at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

In addition to the requirements established in the Terms of Employment at MDU, the following eligibility requirements apply for this position: You hold a doctoral degree in Swedish, Nordic languages, or equivalent.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria shall include both the degree of skill required for the position and the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

In addition to the assessment criteria established in the Terms of Employment at MDU, special weight will be given to the following for this position:

• previous experience of leadership and/or administrative roles within academia,
• experience of teaching Swedish and Swedish as a Second Language in higher education,
• degree in education relevant to the position (e.g., teacher education).

In an overall assessment of suitability, personal qualities will also be emphasized. All employees at MDU are expected to collaborate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the operations and their own tasks, and contribute to a good working environment.
