Workplace Description

The Department of Solid Mechanics was the first department established at LTH and is now part of the Faculty of Engineering.

The department operates in an international environment and has contacts with research organizations and companies both nationally and internationally. Today, the Department of Solid Mechanics consists of about 25 employees, of which approximately 15 are PhD students. The work climate is open and welcoming, striving to provide every employee with the opportunity to develop personally and professionally.

The subject of solid mechanics deals with methods and principles for describing deformable bodies. Solid mechanics is a fundamental subject within mechanical engineering and is of essential importance for related disciplines. The problems and questions addressed within solid mechanics have clear relevance for industrial applications.

Job Responsibilities

As a teaching assistant, your tasks may vary, and the tasks should provide insight into the academic world at the faculty where you are studying.

The tasks include:

  • Teaching in exercises.
  • Participation in the assessment of examination assignments.
  • Administration.

The teaching assistant positions apply to the course FHLF25, Finite Element Method and Introduction to Material Mechanics. The course is scheduled according to the timetable found at http://www.lth.se (http://www.lth.se).

Qualifications

Eligible for employment as a teaching assistant is someone who is admitted to education at the undergraduate or advanced level at the faculty (or a related subject for the joint institutions). A degree must not have been obtained.

Requirements for the position are:

  • Admitted to a civil engineering program, engineering degree program, or equivalent education that the employer deems relevant.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • Passed course in FHLF25 or FHLF20 or VSMN30, or equivalent, of at least 6 credits.
  • Very good understanding and skill in the Finite Element Method.
  • Good communication skills.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Knowledge in solid mechanics at an advanced level.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Good collaboration skills.
  • Interest in contributing to others' learning.

Other

The employment is temporary from 2026-03-23 to 2026-06-05 (FHLF25) and concerns a scope of 10–35%. The employment must not negatively affect the teaching assistant's studies and must not be combined with other employments. Regulations regarding educational employment as a teaching assistant are found in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), Chapter 5, Sections 8–12. The employment is covered by the Working Hours Agreement for teachers.
