PhD Candidate in Psychology at Lund University

The PhD Program

The Department of Psychology is now seeking a PhD candidate for the doctoral program in any area of the subject based on a self-proposed project plan.

The doctoral program in psychology comprises 240 higher education credits, equivalent to four years of full-time study, and concludes with the candidate defending their doctoral thesis at a public defense. Regulations regarding employment as a PhD candidate can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Sections 1–7.

The person employed as a PhD candidate is expected to dedicate themselves to their doctoral studies and actively participate in the research and teaching environment at the department in Lund. In addition to their own studies, departmental duties of up to 20 percent may occur, primarily in the form of teaching but also research or administrative tasks, in accordance with applicable regulations.

Eligibility

Basic eligibility for doctoral education is granted to those who have:

  • completed a master's degree,
  • fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits at the master's level, or
  • acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

Specific eligibility for doctoral education in psychology is granted to those who have:

  • at least 30 credits at the master's level in the main field of psychology, including an independent project of at least 15 credits, or
  • equivalent knowledge acquired within or outside the country.

Selection Criteria

In the selection among eligible applicants, particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to benefit from the doctoral education, in accordance with the Higher Education Act and SFS 1998:80.

Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required and will be assessed through interviews with the highest-ranked candidates.

Employment Type

Fixed-term employment as a PhD candidate for four years, with a monthly salary according to the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Section 7.
