Workplace Description

The research group Molecular Neurogenetics at the Department of Experimental Medical Science within the Faculty of Medicine conducts research on the human brain and its relation to diseases, and is at the international forefront of its field.

The research group is led by Professor Johan Jakobsson and includes an additional 14 members. The group is international and comprises employees in research, administration, and technology. We are now seeking a new postdoctoral researcher for a project focusing on endogenous retroviruses and their potential role in Alzheimer's disease. Project Description

The project focuses on using advanced bioinformatics methods to analyze available large-scale RNA sequencing data from patients with Alzheimer's disease to identify expression of endogenous retroviruses.

Responsibilities and Duties

At Lund University, a postdoctoral appointment is intended to provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. Primarily, there is room for merit in research, but also to some extent for higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be included in the duties.

As a postdoctoral researcher within the research group, you will participate in a research project focusing on endogenous retroviruses and their role in Alzheimer's disease. Your tasks include designing, executing, and interpreting advanced bioinformatics analyses.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • PhD or equivalent foreign degree in Medical Science, Biomedicine, or related field. The PhD must be completed by the time the employment decision is made, and you should have obtained your degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research.
  • Pedagogical skills.
  • Good knowledge of bioinformatics analysis.
  • Experience in research on the human brain and its cells.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Good scientific ability to plan and analyze experiments.
  • Good ability to function well in collaborative projects both within the group and with other research groups as well as with other disciplines.
  • Positive attitude and a drive to succeed.
  • Good ability to present research orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Desirable qualifications for the position include:

  • Knowledge of cellular mechanisms related to brain diseases.
  • Previous experience in research on endogenous retroviruses and/or transposable elements.

The assessment of applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

About the Position

The position is a fixed-term appointment for two years, 100% with a start date of March 15, 2026, or by agreement. Appointments at Lund University are conducted in Sweden, so you are expected to be able to perform your work on-site in Lund.

The appointment is limited to at least two years, maximum three years according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (Arbetsgivarverket). A postdoctoral appointment is intended as an initial step in the career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research competence.
