FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe’s leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. About the position

As an analyst, you will work on various issues to develop decision-making and knowledge support that can contribute to increased quality and efficiency in civil and military defense. Research as well as method development and analytical support are some of the tasks. This position has a certain focus on analytical games as a method. The games can be conducted in seminar form, as structured workshops, or as manual games where the game board can consist of a terrain map, an organizational chart, or similar. You will be part of a team that conducts games from mission analysis to execution, analysis, and documentation. The work involves:

• participating before, during, and after games and taking on various roles, e.g., game master/facilitator, documenter, game participant, or evaluator
• developing scenarios
• developing methods and materials for evaluation
• developing and further developing games
• presenting conducted games and game concepts at conferences or in the form of scientific articles
• gathering new game concepts and ideas and transforming them into practical application.

The work is performed both independently and together with clients and colleagues at FOI in Kista and at the Armed Forces, MSB, or other clients. To some extent, field and exercise activities with inconvenient working hours may occur, as well as travel within Sweden and abroad.

About the unit

You will be part of the Capability Development unit, which belongs to the Defence Analysis department. Our main task is to support the Armed Forces' capability development in the medium term. This is done through direct support, studies, and strategic analyses, where we assist our clients with methodical and scientifically grounded decision support. Employees in the unit also work on projects in other units and departments, including assignments within crisis preparedness and civil defense.

Do you have the competence profile we need?

We are looking for someone who has:

• an academic degree at the master's level in natural sciences or social sciences or is an engineering graduate
• at least 3 years of work experience in a relevant field for the position
• knowledge of qualitative analytical methods
• experience leading group discussions or games
• good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

You have the ability to speak clearly, well-formulated, and engagingly in both small and large groups. You have a good understanding of how others absorb knowledge and adapt your approach to the situation. You need to be self-driven, take initiative, and contribute new ideas and approaches. • developed or created your own games
• knowledge of and experience in total defense and/or civil or military defense.

The position is a permanent employment that may start with a six-month probationary period.
