Economist at the Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics conducts undergraduate and graduate education as well as research in mathematics, mathematical statistics, and computational mathematics at Stockholm University.

With approximately 120 employees, we are one of the larger departments at Stockholm University. The administration currently consists of 14 staff members working with finance, personnel, IT, education, and facilities.

Job Responsibilities

As an economist, you play a central role in the department's finances and work with a wide variety of financial issues related to education and research. You are responsible for the department's financial tasks. As part of the administrative department, your mission is to provide competent support and contribute to development in the area.

The main job responsibilities include:

  • budget work and follow-up
  • accounting and financial statements
  • contract management
  • purchasing
  • invoicing
  • reports
  • development of financial administrative routines
  • travel bookings and time reporting
  • advising other staff
  • project accounting and administration of research projects
  • assisting with administrative tasks.

You are involved in the overall finances of the department as support to the head of department, administrative manager, and board. Stockholm University is a government authority, and the tasks are governed by both internal and external regulations, for which you are responsible for monitoring. You also work closely with researchers in managing the finances of their research projects. The work involves many internal and external contacts, as you collaborate with both staff at the department and the university's central finance department. You report to the administrative manager of the department.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Relevant university degree in finance or equivalent as assessed by the employer.
  • Experience working independently with accounting and financial statements at a corresponding level of responsibility.
  • Several years of experience in similar tasks.
  • Good knowledge of accounting.
  • Good knowledge of the Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in both Swedish and English.

Desirable

  • Experience from public administration, preferably at a university or college.
  • Experience in project accounting.

Personal Attributes

You are structured, both in your own work and in the support you provide. A good ability to plan and effectively execute tasks within your area of responsibility is required. With the many contact points that the work involves, it is important that you work consultatively and build good relationships.

There is a need for the ability to present and communicate results and analyses pedagogically, both in writing and verbally in both Swedish and English. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

About the Employment

The position is full-time and permanent with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting, so please indicate your salary expectations. Start date as soon as possible.
