About the Unit

The main task of the 161st Air Surveillance and Air Control Battalion (Strilbataljonen) is to be responsible for monitoring Swedish airspace and air combat control. The battalion is engaged in operational activities on a daily basis. Other tasks include the operation and protection of fortified command posts, as well as the deployment of mobile sensors and radio systems throughout Sweden.

The battalion staff primarily works with coordination and preparation of matters at all conflict levels, from peace to war. The staff consists of four sections, one of which is the SIS section, which works with communication and command support systems. The section's task is to work with, among other things, the planning of the battalion's operations, such as communication and command support systems in our facilities and installations where IT plays a significant role.

Main Responsibilities

The position of Systems Engineer involves a broad and varied workload within the entire command system area. You will, among other things, work with accreditation and implementation of command systems, integration with NATO systems, and various cryptographic systems. You will also act as support in the development of new systems and process development. This includes some administrative tasks as well as more practical technical work when needed.

For this, you need to build a broad network through regular collaboration with other personnel in the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • University education in IT/System Science or equivalent education/experience assessed by the employer as equivalent.
  • Documented work experience in the IT field.
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
  • Valid driver's license (Category B).

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience from the Swedish Armed Forces and larger organizations – includes service or work within the Swedish Armed Forces or other government agencies.
  • System and security competence – good knowledge of the Swedish Armed Forces' command systems and experience with flight safety-affecting systems.
  • Business development – experience in business development and establishment of new operations.

Other Information

  • Employment type: Permanent. The Swedish Armed Forces applies a six-month probationary period for those not already employed by the agency.
  • Employment level: Full-time.
  • Work location: Bålsta. F 16 also has operations in other locations, which may involve occasional business travel.
  • Working hours: Primarily daytime. Evening and weekend duty may occur during training activities.
  • Start date: As soon as possible, according to agreement.

Information about the Swedish Armed Forces and the recruiting unit: The Uppland Air Wing, F 16, is headquartered at the Uppsala Garrison. The unit is part of the Swedish Air Force and is responsible for the operation and security of Uppsala Airport, as well as the training of conscripts in various roles within the Air Force. The unit also leads the 161st Air Surveillance and Air Control Battalion, which controls combat aircraft in the air and manages the constant surveillance of Swedish airspace. The unit operates from several different locations in the country and is an important part of the growth period the Air Force is undergoing.
