Job Responsibilities

Do you want to work part-time while doing something meaningful? As a casual employee in respite care, you support children and young people with disabilities and give their parents the opportunity for relief.

About the Assignment

As a respite carer, you are temporarily responsible for the care in the child's or young person's home. The work is based on the individual's needs and may involve help with personal care, cooking, light cleaning, walks, or various activities. It can also involve playing favorite games, crafting, or simply being a social companion. Several of the children we meet need clear structure and communication, which means you may use methods such as low-arousal approach (LAB) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Unlike many other casual jobs, respite care means you get a schedule with a specific child. This means you become an important part of the child's daily life as permanent staff, with fixed and recurring work shifts each week. The schedule is planned in consultation with the family and adapted to both their needs and your availability.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for you who are responsible, confident in working independently, and have an easy time building trust. You have an interest in working with children or young people with disabilities, regardless of whether you have previous experience from working life or through relatives. Continuity and trust are important in this assignment. We are therefore looking for you who have the opportunity to work continuously and create a safe and long-term relationship with the families you support. The medical responsibility always lies with the guardian, according to decisions on self-care.

In the Department for Disability Support, we work with the concept 3T - "Hour to Permanent". The goal is to lead to a permanent employment in the department for trained substitutes, approx. 70% of our permanent staff come from casual jobs.

Working Hours

Working hours vary depending on the families' needs and can be scheduled on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and nights.

Qualifications

To work as a substitute within disability support, you must be 18 years old, in accordance with the regulations on the working environment for minors (AFS 2023:2).

If you do not meet the passing grade in Swedish 1 or Swedish as a Second Language 1, you may be offered a language test via EducateIt.

We consider it advantageous if you have completed or are currently studying in the field, for example as a support assistant, assistant nurse, or alternatively an ongoing or completed academic education within health and social care, behavioral science, or pedagogical education. It is also advantageous if you have previous experience of working within the disability support area or within care and nursing. If you have previous experience/knowledge of low-arousal approach (LAB) or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), this is also advantageous, but not a requirement.

As a substitute within disability support, you put the individual in focus, have a pedagogical approach, and a genuine interest in people with different types of functional variations. It is important that you are sensitive to the individual's needs to be able to adapt your approach in different situations. For us, it is desirable that you are responsible and have a flexible approach. It is also very important that you are stable and secure as a person.

Do you feel that the above description fits you? Then you are warmly welcome to apply!

Other

Selection and interviews begin during the application period.

Instead of sending a cover letter to us, you will answer a number of questions where you get to describe your knowledge in the area.
