Assistant Professor in Economics with a focus on Labour Economics
at the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences, with approximately 100 employees from around ten countries. Each year, around 1,000 students participate in one of our courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The research at the department is primarily focused on labour economics, macroeconomics, political economy, and public economics. Researchers at the department are frequently consulted as experts in public inquiries and in the media, and collaborate in many ways with the surrounding society.
Period of Employment
The position of Assistant Professor may be held for a maximum of four years, with the possibility of promotion to Associate Professor. An employee in the position of Assistant Professor shall, upon written application, be promoted to Associate Professor if, after expert review, they are deemed to meet the qualification requirements established by the respective area or faculty board and stated in the information about the vacancy. Other criteria for promotion to Associate Professor are found in the Employment Regulations of Uppsala University and in the Supplementary Guidelines of the Faculty of Social Sciences (Section 2f).
Duties
Research in economics, with a particular focus on research at the interface between labour economics and macroeconomics, as well as teaching in economics, with a particular focus on labour economics and macroeconomics at an advanced level. Teaching responsibilities include course coordination, supervision, and course administration. The position may also include administrative duties. The teaching load shall be at most 50 percent.
Qualifications
Eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor is the person who has completed a doctoral degree or has attained equivalent scientific competence and meets the requirements for pedagogical skill. Primarily, applicants who have completed a doctoral degree or attained equivalent competence no more than seven years before the deadline for applications will be considered. In addition, the applicant must meet what is prescribed in the Employment Regulations of Uppsala University (§ 39) and the guidelines of the Faculty of Social Sciences (Section 2 e).
It is required that the pedagogical skill, scientific competence, and professional skill are relevant to the subject content of the position and the duties included in the position.
According to the Employment Regulations of Uppsala University, it is further a general eligibility requirement for teachers that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the requirements of suitability needed to perform the position well.
For eligibility, documented ability to teach in English is required.
