Pig medicine is the subject for you who want pleasant colleagues, good working conditions, and who find it important and stimulating to work with a focus on disease prevention. The main duties include both practical and theoretical teaching, as well as examination in the subject of pig medicine within the Veterinary Medicine Programme. The teaching includes, among other things, propaedeutics, farm visits, health investigations, seminars, and practical exercises, as well as supervision of theses within the species.

In addition to teaching, course coordination, administrative work, and research may also be included in the employment. Potential collaboration with organized animal health care can also be discussed.

Your Background

Qualifications:

• Hold a Swedish veterinary license.
• Hold a Category B driver's license for a car with a manual transmission.
• Be able to express yourself well both orally and in writing in Swedish and English.

Assessment Criteria:

• Motivation and interest in the subject and for your own clinical competence development within the subject.
• Ability to collaborate and ability to work both independently and in a group.
• Administrative skills.
• Experience in teaching, preferably at the university level.
• Experience in clinical veterinary medicine work within the subject.

Great importance is attached to your personal qualities, such as independence, goal orientation, and high motivation for work within pig medicine.

About Us

The Department of Clinical Sciences is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU. The department is responsible for basic education, research, and doctoral education in the subjects of anesthesiology, imaging diagnostics, epidemiology, laboratory animal medicine, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine, and reproduction. Within all subjects, our activities cover all animal species.

The Unit for Pig and Poultry Medicine is responsible for teaching, research, and development within each respective subject area. SLU is an approved training institute within ECPHM (European College of Porcine Health Medicine) that trains European specialists (Diplomates) in the subject area. The activity is based on herd visits within the framework of teaching veterinary students and research in close collaboration with SVA and organized animal health care. The activity also includes investigations of disease problems and advice to veterinarians and animal owner organizations.
