Palmbladsskolan Distans is an integrated part of Palmbladsskolan and constitutes a specialized operation focused on providing distance education as special support. We work to create accessible, flexible, and individualized solutions for students who cannot participate in regular teaching.

The operation has a total of 90 student places, of which 60 places are intended for students from Uppsala Municipality schools and 30 places for inter-municipal students as well as students from independent operators.

Palmbladsskolan Distans was one of the first units in Sweden to establish this form of support through structured distance education within the framework of special support. This pioneering work still characterizes our operation, where we continuously develop methods and approaches to meet each student's unique prerequisites.

We are now facing our third year of operation, with a stable foundation to build upon and a clear ambition to continue leading the way in the field. Through close collaboration with the home schools' student health services, educators, and school leadership, we ensure high quality in both teaching and support measures.

Description of Duties

As a teacher in distance education with a focus on special support, you are responsible for planning, conducting, and following up on teaching for students in grades 7–9 who are in need of alternative forms of instruction. The teaching is digital and targets students who, for various reasons, cannot participate in regular classroom teaching.

In this role, you plan and conduct teaching in Swedish, Swedish as a Second Language, and/or English based on the curriculum documents (Lgr22). Your teaching has a clear focus on adapting to each student's individual needs, prerequisites, and action plans. You create structured, clear, and accessible digital learning environments and provide continuous feedback and support to promote students' knowledge development.

The work takes place in close collaboration with student health services, special education teachers, and home schools. Together, you contribute to designing and implementing compensatory and supportive teaching. This means using extra adaptations, clarifying pedagogy, as well as a motivating and relationship-building approach. You continuously follow up and document students' progress in relation to set goals.

The teaching is conducted remotely, which means you use digital tools and platforms for both synchronous and asynchronous teaching. You ensure presence, structure, and study environment in the digital learning space and are flexible in your working methods, as you teach both individual students and smaller groups.

An important part of the assignment is collaboration and communication, where you have continuous contact with students, guardians, and home school staff. You participate in meetings regarding students' development, such as student health meetings and follow-ups, and actively contribute to the development of the operation within distance education.

You document teaching and assessment according to current guidelines. You work actively to strengthen students' motivation, independence, and study skills. At the same time, you keep up to date with research and development within distance education and special support.

This position is a fixed-term employment for 3 months with an start date of 2026-08-10.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a teaching license in Swedish/Swedish as a Second Language/English for the later years of lower secondary school. As a person, you are outgoing and social in your work. You easily establish contact with students, guardians, and colleagues. You collaborate well with others and relate to your surroundings in a listening and smooth manner. You listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts in a constructive way. In change, you adapt easily to changed circumstances. You can quickly change your perspective and attitude.

Uppsala Municipality applies individual and differentiated salary setting according to the current collective agreement.

In your application, you must state your citizenship. Employment can only take place after verification of the work permit, which is required according to the Aliens Ordinance.

Employment with Uppsala Municipality may involve being placed on the war establishment.
