Do you want to play a key role in the command and control work of the rescue services and contribute to ensuring that rescue operations are carried out efficiently and safely? The Fyrbodal Rescue Service is now recruiting Alarm and Command Officers (ACO), a dynamic role where you truly have the chance to make a difference, with the opportunity to work closely with operational command and contribute to societal safety.

The Role

As an ACO, you operate within the decision domain of system command and perform tasks based on the roles the function encompasses - such as command support, initial resource management, and response adaptation. You will operate within a rescue command system that stretches from Mellerud in the north to Laholm in the south. Within the rescue command system, several ACOs work in parallel, located at geographically dispersed command centers in Trollhättan, Borås, and Halmstad. We are currently seeking two to five Alarm and Command Officers with a placement in Trollhättan. You will work together with two other ACOs under one on-duty officer.

A central part of the ACO role is to contribute to an unbroken command process. You continuously evaluate information about assistance needs in accidents and adapt response allocation based on the current situation picture. In this role, you initiate, direct, and coordinate other time-critical measures in the early stages of rescue operations.

You ensure that ongoing rescue operations are followed up and provide continuous and proactive command support to the operational organization. Through active follow-up and the preparation of relevant decision-making materials, you create good conditions for the operational command's work.

As an ACO, you are also responsible for ensuring that rescue operations are equipped with the right resources and capabilities for efficient execution. This includes maintaining close cooperation and contact with SOS Alarm. Furthermore, you ensure initial readiness management within your assigned area and perform measures to maintain readiness according to given frameworks.

The position also involves working during daytime on tasks designed in collaboration with your manager, based on personal competence. Since our rescue command system is new and we will be in a strong phase of construction and development, it is also expected that you will contribute to the development of the robust rescue command system that we aim to be.

Qualifications

Education

To be considered for the position, you must have completed basic training as a firefighter or fire engineer and one of the following courses with a passing grade, or other training assessed as equivalent:

  • The Command Course Lk1b, or
  • The advanced course for fire engineers (RUB), or
  • other older training assessed as equivalent.

Experience in operational command functions within overarching and/or incident-site-close command is meritorious.

Skills and Competencies

  • Applied knowledge of LSO (Fire and Rescue Services Act) and occupational safety legislation
  • Good understanding of the command process, decision domains, as well as ELS and the framework Common Grounds
  • Knowledge of alarm and readiness management, prioritization principles, tactics, and methods
  • Ability to handle information and situation pictures, as well as use technical decision and communication support
  • Ability to coordinate resources, structure, and communicate information in real-time
  • Courage and judgment to make decisions even under unclear conditions
  • Category B driver's license

We are looking for someone who is structured and methodical and feels comfortable in a high work pace. You have good multitasking abilities and high stress tolerance, and are communicative, clear, and team-oriented.

About the Workplace

The Fyrbodal Rescue Service is currently embarking on an exciting journey in creating a new joint rescue command system together with the command systems of Southern Halland and Älvsborg. The new rescue command system will stretch from Mellerud in the north to Laholm in the south and consist of three command centers located in Trollhättan, Borås, and Halmstad.

The Fyrbodal Command Center will move into new premises adjacent to the fire station in Trollhättan by the end of 2027.

Other Information

The position of Alarm and Command Officer may be subject to a security check, which implies a requirement for Swedish citizenship and register control. The position also involves war-time placement and requirements for a passed health, alcohol, and drug test. Working hours are scheduled across both day and night shifts, with night on-call duties included in the schedule. Employment is regulated according to the collective agreement General Provisions (AB).
