Job Description

Gothenburg Remand Prison is one of five security remand prisons in Sweden. As a prison officer, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in a team with others to maintain a safe and secure operation and motivate the client towards a life without crime. Structure and clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You have daily contact with the clients, you conduct conversations, and you are involved in the clients' process during their detention. Your work includes documenting and following up on client cases. As a prison officer, you are the one who opens the door in the morning and locks it in the evening. You are responsible for searching and supervising clients and premises. There are good opportunities to develop and specialize in the role depending on your interests.

If you have an interest and aptitude for technology and computers, there is also a need for staff for the prison's surveillance center. Here we need you who can focus on multiple things simultaneously and are good at handling unforeseen events. You primarily work with monitoring operations, handling alarms, and communicating with staff in different parts of the prison.

Our most important goal is to help our clients break patterns and thereby reduce the risk of recidivism. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. Some people are held in pre-trial detention for long periods and only meet their lawyer and those who work at the prison. This places special demands on you as a prison officer to be professional and interested in meeting people.

Qualifications

Your personal qualities are important. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, good judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operation, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your attitude to ensure that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for you who have:

• Completed upper secondary education or alternative education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not to be equated with employment
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Good computer skills

The following is also meritorious:

• Work experience from the prison and probation service, security work, social care, psychiatry, or care and nursing
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
• Relevant language skills
