Description

An adapted high school in Gothenburg is looking for you who want to contribute to our school's development. In the autumn of 2024, we started a new school unit for students within individual programs, many at an early developmental level. Last autumn, we expanded with three additional classes and introduced a system with two teachers per class.

Our new school is located in a quiet and nature-rich setting at Stora Holm on Hisingen. Nature and the beautiful surroundings become a natural part of the teaching. The school currently has 44 students distributed across seven classes. The students have an intellectual disability, often with various additional diagnoses such as autism, mobility impairments, hearing or visual impairments.

Responsibilities

We are now looking for two special needs teachers with extensive experience with this student group and a strong belief in the students' ability to learn and develop. You will be one of 16 teachers who, in addition to working as a teaching teacher and mentor, drive the pedagogical development of the school. The teaching staff works in close collaboration with the school principal, group manager, student assistants, student health services, business developers, and other staff.

Each class consists of 5 to 8 students who need structure, predictability, security, and care, as well as challenges based on their individual prerequisites. Together with the class's teaching colleague, you will plan and lead the work for the competent and engaged student assistants who are part of the work team and involved in the teaching.

We work thematically with a common theme for each term. Our overarching goal is "Day 1 Year 5," which means working on the skills our young people need to develop to cope as well as possible in life after high school.

We expect you to stay updated on relevant research and contribute to school development based on the school's systematic quality work. You adapt your methods and approach to the students' needs and see learning in care and care in learning. You work with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and clarifying pedagogy. You will, in close collegial collaboration, contribute to creating a culture and attitude that aligns with the school's values and pedagogical foundation.

To succeed, the role requires, in addition to drive and commitment, patience and long-term thinking. We strive for a humble and non-hierarchical culture where we learn together and from each other by sharing experiences and good examples.

Qualifications

You are a certified and qualified special needs teacher with a focus on intellectual disability.

You have extensive experience and knowledge of our student group, preferably students at an early developmental level. You have good special pedagogical competence and experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and clarifying pedagogy.

You have experience planning and leading classroom work for student assistants. Based on the students' needs, it is positive if you also have a special interest in music, rhythmics, and movement.

You have experience working with school development and systematic quality work. You can lead, inspire, and engage your colleagues. You are pedagogical, collaborative, flexible, receptive, and independent. Knowledge of TSS (Swedish Sign Language) or sign language is meritorious.

Other Information

We offer you, as a certified teacher and otherwise meeting the qualifications, the opportunity to study further to become a special needs teacher. Based on the operations' needs, studies at 20% of a full-time position with maintained salary are offered for further education leading to a special needs degree with a focus on intellectual disability.

For your interview, you need to bring a passport/national ID and possibly proof of residence permit if you have citizenship outside the EU/EEA. This is because as an employer, we need to verify your identity and ensure you have the right to work in Sweden.

With reference to the laws regulating register checks, anyone offered this position must present an extract from the criminal record register before an employment contract can be drawn up.

For positions where there are educational requirements, you who proceed in the recruitment process will be asked to submit documentation proving your education, e.g., license or degree certificate. You can also attach them directly to your application.
