About the Operations

Hjortmosseskolan is a municipal central school for grades F-6 with 380 students. At the school, each grade works in teams where primary school teachers and after-school center staff work closely together. This is a working method that we will continue to develop, along with improving the quality of the after-school center and cooperation between departments.

During this school year, we have developed the operations so that after-school teachers have a responsibility for movement and health within the team. Together, the mission is to put movement and health in focus from a broader perspective on the school. This also includes movement as an integrated element through more fun breaks and pause activities. Now, we want to further develop the responsibilities within the teams, and we are therefore looking for after-school teachers with music as a qualified subject; visual arts may also be of interest.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for you who have the ability to see students' different needs, take into account their individual prerequisites, and enjoy challenges. You want to be involved in the work of helping students grow and develop. In this role, it may also become relevant to be placed in our special education groups, where the needs are more specific and intensive. As a student support worker, you take great responsibility for the student's development on several levels. It is about supporting learning, but no less about promoting the student's social development, communication, and independence in everyday life. You are a good role model and have the ability to create safe relationships with both students, parents, and colleagues. You are professional in your approach and have great curiosity, lack of pretension, and patience to find the way forward so that the student succeeds as often as possible. At our school, we work in teams, so you always have close colleagues to evaluate and analyze methods with. Part of your position will be located at the after-school center.

Qualifications

For this position, we see that you have a post-secondary education (for example, the Child and Youth Worker program) or education as a student assistant, special needs educator, or youth leader. You also have experience working as a student support worker.

To fit the role, the following is required:

  • Experience with autism and speech disorders: You have a good understanding of what these functional variations mean and how you support the student both in and outside the classroom.
  • Clarifying pedagogy: You have good knowledge of using visual supports and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) as natural tools in everyday life.
  • Low-arousal approach: You have knowledge of and can apply the low-arousal approach in both theory and practice to create a safe school environment.
  • Holistic view: You have the ability to look at the student's entire school day and can adapt the environment to minimize difficulties and increase the student's functional ability.

Experience working within LSS (Act for Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments) is highly meritorious. We see that you have a high sense of mission where the goal is always for every student to reach as far as possible in their learning and social community. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. It is meritorious if you can provide good references from previous work with children/students that show you can put your knowledge into practice.
