About Us

At Kvibergsskolan, we are currently looking for a School Counselor.

Kvibergsskolan is a technology-rich school with flexible learning environments. We are one of Sweden's five certified Apple Schools. Our innovative teaching is based on a thematic approach. The school consists of two school buildings (Grades F-3 and 4-9) as well as a Special School (Grades 1-9). The school's pedagogical staff is divided into 6 work teams that, together with management and support functions, are responsible for approximately 850 students. Every day, we create the conditions for students' learning and democratic development by working with safety, community, independence, and by meeting our students with curiosity. We always keep the students' learning at the center and build a culture that takes responsibility for our environment and each other.

Job Responsibilities

As a School Counselor, you will be part of the school area's joint student health services, as well as the local student health teams at the units. You will contribute psychosocial competence at the organizational, group, and individual levels. Within the student health services, you will collaborate with school nurses, special education teachers, school psychologists, school doctors, assistant principals, and principals. The team's mission is to work proactively and preventively to strengthen children's and young people's opportunities to achieve their goals, in collaboration with assistant principals, principals, and work teams.

The role includes, for example, participating in the school's continuous values and safety work, support conversations, collaborating with and supporting guardians, consulting with staff, and interventions in groups/classes. You will conduct school social investigations and assessments prior to admission to the Special School, as well as investigations into student absenteeism. You will document your work in PMO. You will also prioritize your interventions together with the school leadership and other student health staff.

Within the Primary and Secondary Education Authority, you will participate in professional meetings once a month together with fellow counselors and professional developers, and you will participate in external supervision. As a new counselor, you will also receive an introduction and a mentor. Counselors in the Primary and Secondary Education Authority operate based on a common job description.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree in social work or a corresponding higher education qualification that the employer considers equivalent. You have good knowledge of the Social Services Act and the Education Act, as well as experience working with a low-affective approach.

Merits for the position include:

  • Experience working as a school counselor
  • Experience working with children and young people.
  • Experience in promoting and preventive interventions within schools or other activities.
  • Training in counseling methods and supervision. We work, among other things, with ReSPECT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  • Experience working in a Student Welfare Unit (SU) group or similar activities for students with neurodevelopmental disorders (NPF diagnoses).
  • Experience working within social services.
  • Experience using InPrint or similar visual support tools.

As a person, you are stable, empathetic, unpretentious, and confident in your professional role. You are highly committed to the psychosocial situation of children and young people and have the ability to meet people in different life situations. You enable children to tell their stories and contribute to highlighting students' participation and perspectives. You have an easy time building relationships and are professional and respectful in your approach to students, guardians, and colleagues.

You have an interest in working in a pedagogical environment and in teams with different professions, both to lead health-promoting and preventive work for students' development and to inspire thoughts and work. In your work, you are structured and clear and have the ability to take initiative and make decisions within the framework of your assignment.

The professional role requires a high degree of cooperation, independence, and personal maturity. You enjoy working with complex issues, see opportunities, and are creative. You keep your cool in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions under time pressure.

Does the description above fit you? We warmly welcome your application!
