About the job

Interest in Swedish aid is high among journalists, and SIDA is expanding its press service from two to three positions. The role is important: as a press secretary, you contribute to strategic media work with proactivity and excellent service to journalists. You work independently in close collaboration with two colleagues in the press service, other communicators in the editorial team and unit, and the agency's subject matter experts. The role requires a good understanding of SIDA's mission and close cooperation with the Director General's office and the management group. You report to the Head of Communications.

The unit's joint communication work aims to provide a correct and fair image of Swedish aid, contribute to increased transparency about how it is implemented and what results it leads to. Strategic work with SIDA's media relations is a key part; producing content and supporting managers and employees who act as spokespersons in the media. The work is coordinated with content production for the web, social media, and internal communication, with the ambition to utilize the content created for more than one channel.

You work at our office in Rissne, Sundbyberg.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify news within SIDA's operations, write press releases, opinion pieces, and social media content on the issues you work on, and pitch SIDA's expertise to relevant media.
  • Reactive work following up on news or inquiries coming in from the media.
  • Produce talking points, messages, and formulate questions and answers.
  • Media training.
  • Crisis management.
  • Media monitoring.
  • Media analysis by analyzing and following up on media coverage.
  • Coordinate press work with other actors within the foreign service, such as the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, when necessary.

Qualifications

Education

  • University education in journalism equivalent to at least three years of full-time studies or other relevant education combined with relevant professional experience.

Languages

  • Fluent Swedish in speech and writing.
  • Very good knowledge of English in speech and writing, and additional language skills are valuable.

Work experience and knowledge

  • Experience working as a press secretary or in journalistic work in an editorial team with media contacts.
  • Experience in strategic communication and crisis communication from an organization, company, agency, or consultancy.
  • Fast writer with very good stylistic ability.
  • Ability to find the news angle and sell it to the media.

  • Knowledge of international development cooperation and aid organizations.
  • Experience working in a politically directed activity and context.
  • Experience working integrated with traditional and social media.
  • Knowledge of publishing on own websites and in social channels.
  • Knowledge of the principles of the public sector values, the principle of public access, and the role of a public servant.
  • Established network within the media.

Good to know

The position is for a permanent employment with start date upon agreement. Probation period applies.

SIDA offers the possibility of remote work to some extent if it works for the operations.
