Job Description

We are looking for a Research Engineer for the CARE-AI project, a collaboration between KTH (EECS) and Region Stockholm (Södersjukhuset). You will build and maintain secure data pipelines (ETL) for large-scale, pseudonymized health data from the systems TakeCare, VAL, and LISA. The role involves optimizing and scaling the project's machine learning code, including causal models and the simulation tool CARE-Sim. You will develop and integrate the software interface for a clinical decision support system and provide technical support during a 12-month clinical trial in primary care. The role serves as a central technical link between KTH researchers and the clinical team at Södersjukhuset.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A completed advanced degree (Master's degree) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent competence.
• Very good programming skills in Python as well as practical experience with Git, CI/CD, and Docker.
• Experience in building and managing data pipelines (ETL) for complex datasets.
• Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, as it is required in daily research work.
• As a person, you have excellent collaboration skills, are independent, structured, communicative, and possess analytical problem-solving abilities.
• Subject-specific competence.
• Professional competence.
• Awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

Merits

• Education or courses at an advanced level in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
• Experience with deep learning (PyTorch or TensorFlow), Transformer models, or causal AI.
• Experience handling electronic patient records (e.g., TakeCare) or medical health registers.
• Experience with software integration in clinical environments or collaboration between academia and healthcare.
