Östersund Municipality is part of the Sami administrative area. This means, among other things, that Sami people have the right to preschool activities that are entirely or substantially in Sami if they wish. Östersund Municipality started Sami preschool activities in the autumn of 2021, and the activity is currently conducted two days a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Miesieh preschool has the task of supporting children in the Sami language varieties that are their home language or from the language area their guardians come from. The activity is conducted entirely or substantially in Sami (Southern and Northern Sami) and is based on Sami pedagogy. In January 2025, we moved into our new premises at the Storfjället preschool, where we also have a Sami dwelling area prepared on the preschool yard.

The position is a permanent part-time employment at 50%. Two days a week, Mondays and Tuesdays, are scheduled in the children's group. In addition, 2–4 hours per week are included for reflection, meetings, and further education.

Your new job

You will work with children aged 1–5, where your main task is to preserve and maintain the Sami language, culture, and inherited traditions so that they become a natural part of the preschool's activities.

Together with your colleagues, you are responsible for creating a fun, safe, and educational environment for the children, with a good balance between care, development, and learning. You create conditions for all children to play, learn, and develop, but also to have fun together.

Depending on experience and education, you will, together with your colleagues, be responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on teaching based on the preschool curriculum.

As a pedagogue in the Sami section, you will have great opportunities to influence and shape the activities.

We work based on a seasonal planning that we have developed together with guardians. In the seasonal planning, we have included work we do during different seasons. We also focus on linguistic terms for the various things we do. The seasonal planning follows us every year and is adjusted/changed as needed. Much of what we do is linked to nature, the preparation of meat/fish, and Sami traditions.

Children get to develop their Sami mother tongue through play and activities. We work to strengthen the children in their Sami identity and ensure that everyone feels involved in what we do.

Common tasks

• Plan and carry out activities based on the curriculum and our seasonal planning.
• Develop pedagogical content that inspires development and learning, while strengthening the children in their Sami identity.
• Offer each child safe care and promote the development and learning of all children.
• Create learning opportunities based on the children's needs and interests, so that all children can develop based on their abilities and conditions.
• As a pedagogue, you will work together with your colleagues to plan, teach, document, and evaluate the content of the activities.

Your qualifications

Requirements

• Relevant academic degree.
• Sami culture and language competence – preferably Southern and/or Northern Sami.

Meritorious

• Previous experience working with younger children.
• Licensed preschool teacher.
