Statistician for the Section for Coordination and Cross-Cutting Areas
Proactive and interested in societal issues? Then we think you will thrive with us. Statistics Sweden (SCB) is the country's largest and leading source of knowledge within statistics. Our statistics are used everywhere, at the kitchen table, in news reporting, and by decision-makers in the Riksdag and Government.
1 position(s).
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Section for Coordination and Cross-Cutting Areas is responsible for coordinating division-wide issues and statistics that span several subject areas within social statistics and analysis.
The section is responsible for developing, producing, and making available statistics on gender equality, integration, and children and their families. We are also responsible for coordinating and developing statistics on persons with disabilities. The section also handles the coordination of the division's quality work, international work, and analytical support. The section has broad collaboration within the entire agency and within the Swedish statistical system.
We are looking for you who can strengthen the section in the work with:
- division-spanning analytical assignments,
- development within the section's statistical areas, and
- government assignments that often concern current issues and complex societal phenomena.
You are expected to be able to lead and participate in complex government assignments and the development of statistical content, but also to help with all common tasks in the section.
You will often have several different assignments and tasks at the same time and need to drive the work forward independently. At the same time, you have access to a group of colleagues who help and support each other and to the agency's combined competence and helpfulness.
The statistics that the section is responsible for are in demand by both the government and other agencies, as well as by media, civil society, and the general public, which means many contacts with both other producers of statistics and statistical users. You should be comfortable presenting the results of your work both internally and externally in both Swedish and English.
QUALIFICATIONS
You must have:
- academic education in statistics or another social science education
- at least 60 ECTS credits in the subject of statistics, or experience that SCB considers equivalent
- current and relevant experience of processing and analyzing large amounts of data
- current and relevant experience of analysis and investigation work
- documented experience of driving and carrying out projects or assignments with investigative and analytical components and working against deadlines in working life
- experience in writing texts with good language handling adapted to purpose and recipient
- good knowledge of Swedish and English and the ability to express yourself well in both languages in speech and writing
- at least three years of working life experience in the field of statistics and analysis.
It is particularly meritorious if you have:
- experience of developing and producing statistics
- good knowledge of SAS, SQL, R, or a corresponding statistical tool
Other meritorious qualifications include:
- experience of programming in SAS, SQL, or R
- knowledge of and interest in statistics within the section's areas of operation
- experience of producing official or other state statistics
- experience of working within the framework of government assignments or state investigations.
To thrive with us, you should have a strong interest in societal issues and an easy ability to familiarize yourself with new subjects and questions. You need to have good analytical skills, work well with complex issues, and have the ability to translate development ideas into concrete solutions.
You need to be able to work in a structured and self-directed manner and process and interpret statistics in a quality-conscious way. You are comfortable taking own initiatives, appreciate responsibility, drive the work forward, and achieve results. At the same time, you collaborate well with others because the work requires that many competencies internally and externally can be utilized in a respectful manner.
Furthermore, you are pedagogical and have an easy ability to explain and convey information in a clear way and translate complex information into understandable messages, adapted to the target group.
Employment type: Permanent employment.
Selection of received applications takes place during the summer, and interviews are expected to be conducted during weeks 34 and 35. We strive for a more balanced gender distribution in the section, which is currently strongly female-dominated.
The section has employees in both Örebro and Solna, which means at least a couple of trips per month between the locations. Currently, we wish to strengthen the Solna part of the section. Based on the conditions of the operations, there is an opportunity to also work some time from home.
Knowledge within the section's cross-cutting areas is in demand in international development cooperation. You are welcome to have an interest and be open to participating in projects and missions, which often involves travel to SCB's partner countries.
The employment is permanent and usually starts with a six-month probationary period. We will agree on a start date.
At our agency, the competence and potential of all employees are important. We believe in an inclusive culture where we benefit from our diversity and our differences. You who apply share our approach: courage to act, trust in each other's competence and good will, drive to turn words into action, and everyone's responsibility to contribute to the whole.
You apply by registering your CV in Swedish. Attach your degree certificate with course list. Requirements for academic credits not included in a degree must be verified through study certificates/register extracts. In your application, you will answer a number of selection questions in our recruitment system, which you will access when you click Apply below. In this recruitment, we will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. If you have protected personal data, please contact the HR partner via SCB's switchboard.
We warmly welcome your application!
