About Eskilstuna Culture School

Eskilstuna Culture School is open to children and young people in Eskilstuna Municipality and offers education from the age of five up to upper secondary school. The school is based on children's and young people's desire for experiences and creative expression. We spark curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. We offer a broad foundation and openness where everyone feels welcome to try things out and discover an interest. We offer subject courses in music, film, visual arts, theatre, musicals, and dance.

The operations are characterized by high quality and professionalism, aiming to give everyone the opportunity to participate in cultural life and develop their own creativity under professional guidance. The school hosts El Sistema, works towards adapted primary education, and also offers specialized activities that provide a solid foundation for children and young people with special interests for further professional studies.

Responsibilities

In the role of drama pedagogue, you teach children and young people in the Culture School's courses in theatre and drama. You meet students aged 8–19 and plan, conduct, and follow up on teaching based on the students' different prerequisites and development.

You guide student groups through the entire creative process, from idea and planning to a finished performance. The work also includes practical parts such as props and costumes. Through exercises, role-playing, and improvisation, you inspire children and young people to express feelings, thoughts, and ideas. You help students develop their creativity, teamwork skills, and stage presence, while also conveying the joy of drama and theatre. You are part of the Culture School's joint operations and collaborate closely with colleagues in various projects, activities, and events.

The position also includes administrative tasks. You work in the digital tool StudyAlong, where you schedule teaching and manage student groups. Documentation work is also part of your responsibilities.

You work primarily in the afternoons and evenings, but also during daytime hours when needed. Occasional weekends are included.

Qualifications

At a minimum, you have a completed and approved upper secondary education. We welcome applicants with a degree as a teacher in theatre/drama, or other education and experience that we assess as equivalent. You have good pedagogical skills and experience in working with teaching. Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing, and confidence in using IT in your work, are requirements for the position.

It is meritorious if you have experience organizing productions involving theatre and teaching children and young people in theatre. It is also meritorious if you have worked at a culture school or a similar institution.

To succeed in the role, you need to be collaborative, show engagement in your work, and contribute to a positive atmosphere at the workplace. You are receptive, empathetic, and see each student as an individual with unique needs and interests.

Employment terms

  • Employment type: Fixed-term employment.
  • Duration: 6 months or longer.
  • Working hours: Holiday service. Primarily afternoon and evening, but also daytime. Occasional weekends.

The mandate of the Culture and Leisure Administration is to create conditions for good living conditions for all residents and visitors of Eskilstuna by offering a broad range of cultural activities and opportunities for an stimulating leisure time. We are responsible for the municipality's culture school, libraries, meeting places, archives, museums, youth clubs, association support, as well as arenas for culture, sports, and outdoor life.

The administration has an administrative office and three units: the Arenas and Outdoor Life area, the Youth Leisure and Meeting Places area, and the Culture area.
