Temporary Assistants for Special Needs School in Nyköping

The Division of Children, Education, and Culture is responsible for 36 preschools, two preschool buses, 16 primary schools including a special needs school, Nyköping Upper Secondary School, and Campus Nyköping.

Our F-6 organization consists of 14 primary schools and three special needs schools divided into 9 different principal areas. Each principal area has a principal, several deputy principals, and a student health team comprising various professions. With schools in both rural areas and urban centers, we work to increase equality and integration among the schools and strengthen the quality of the municipal primary school.

A special needs school is an alternative to the regular primary school for children with intellectual disabilities. It covers grades 1 to 9. Grades 1-6 are located at Arnö School (Långsätter) and Långbergsskolan. Grades 7-9 are located at Nyköping's Junior High School.

Job Responsibilities

We are currently looking for temporary assistants (student assistants) for our special needs school. We have students in grades F-9, and you will work as a student assistant in the classroom as well as during after-school care in the afternoons.

The work team includes teachers and student assistants with whom you will collaborate closely. The teacher's role also includes coordinating and leading the student assistants associated with the group. We strive for a structured and individualized approach where each student can develop based on their opportunities and abilities.

Qualifications

You should have good knowledge of intellectual disabilities and be familiar with alternative communication methods. Experience and knowledge regarding medical diagnoses such as diabetes and epilepsy are meritorious. We place great emphasis on your ability to create a safe and structured learning environment for the students. Flexibility and a solution-oriented attitude are important components of the work. You should have previous experience in similar work. We also appreciate if you are accustomed to working with clear pedagogy and a low-affective approach.

As the job places high demands on meeting the needs of many different students and collaborating with adults with various competencies, you must be able to collaborate and interact easily in different environments and contexts. You must be receptive but also able to make independent decisions. You should be able to work both independently and in a group.

Criteria for Application as a Student Assistant

• Good collaboration skills
• Good knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
• Previous experience with students with intellectual disabilities (ID) and other neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD)
• Experience or knowledge of medical diagnoses
