Study and Career Counselor at Varberg Municipality

We are Varberg Municipality, the employer who sees the potential in you. Here, you get to make a difference, both for others and for yourself. We are driven by the idea of simplifying people's daily lives and realizing their dreams. We do this through knowledge, innovative courage, and a forward-looking spirit. Welcome to contribute to our vision – to become the creative hub of the west coast.

The Preschool and Primary School Administration is one of Varberg Municipality's largest departments, with nearly 2,200 employees. Within our areas of operation – preschools, primary schools, and child/student health services – we are here for children and students. Together, we shape the future.

In Team South West, we are building a modern, accessible, and collaborative student health service where we work together across school boundaries to create the best conditions for every student's health, development, and learning.

You will become part of an engaged and newly established team that works closely together. We are now looking for an employee to work at Ankarskolan (Grades 1-9) and Mariedalskolan (Preschool-Grade 3).

Here you will have the opportunity to influence, develop, and shape working methods together with colleagues and management in an organization that invests long-term in collaboration, quality, and a sustainable work environment.

1 position(s).

Responsibilities

In the role of Study and Career Counselor, you are responsible for guiding the school's students from a Grades 1-9 perspective. Your overarching goal is to strengthen the students' decision-making competence and provide them with good prerequisites for future study and career choices.

The work is varied and combines individual guidance through motivational conversations about future plans and study techniques with group guidance and teaching about the labor market, professions, and the education system.

You play a key role in the upper secondary school application process for Grades 8-9, where you inform about educational pathways, eligibility requirements, and handle the associated administration.

In your role, you will among other things:

  • Plan, organize, and follow up on students' practical work-life orientation (internships) in close collaboration with responsible teachers.
  • Collaborate and communicate continuously with guardians, school nurses/student health services, other upper secondary schools, and the local business community.
  • Actively participate in the school's student health team (EHT) and contribute the psychosocial and future-oriented perspective.
  • Drive the school's strategic development in the area by revising and updating the local study and career counseling plan.
  • Coordinate and follow up on support for students entitled to mother tongue instruction and study guidance.
  • Guide students in formulating clear goals, both short-term and long-term, and follow up on their development to create structure and direction in their studies.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are confident in your profession and have a natural ability to build trust with students, colleagues, and guardians. You are communicative and have a good feel for how to adapt your message and conversation methods to different target groups and individual prerequisites.

Since the role involves significant personal responsibility for driving and administering the school's counseling processes, we place great emphasis on your independence and personal judgment.

To thrive and succeed in the assignment, you have:

  • A university degree from the Study and Career Counseling Program (SYV degree).
  • A structured approach to work and the ability to independently plan, schedule, and drive processes forward.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience in collaborating across professional boundaries as well as with external actors.
  • Good digital competence and the ability to express yourself well in both speech and writing.

Salary: Monthly salary.
Employment type: Permanent employment.
Duration: Permanent.
