The SOM Institute at Gothenburg University is a center for conducting questionnaire surveys and for research and development in the field of survey methodology. In close collaboration with research groups, authorities, and organizations, SOM conducts cross-sectional studies, panel studies, and experimental studies at the national, regional, and local levels in Sweden. The survey activity aims to collect and make available the best possible research data on the Swedish people's political attitudes, media habits, behaviors, leisure habits, and lifestyles. The surveys are today one of the most important data sources for Swedish research on society and politics, media use, and public opinion formation.

The SOM Institute runs two major research activities: the annually recurring SOM surveys and web panels in the form of the Citizen Panel and other smaller survey projects. In total, about 15–20 people work at the SOM Institute, mainly in the categories of researchers, survey managers, and assistant survey managers. The SOM Institute is located in the Media House at the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMG) at Linnéplatsen in central Gothenburg.

Job Responsibilities

The Survey Manager, together with the scientific responsible, is driving the implementation and development of the Citizen Panel and the SOM Institute's other panels. The main responsibility will lie on operational work with the various surveys and ensuring an efficient organization for their implementation. The Survey Manager leads three to four assistant survey managers who work with the SOM Institute's panel operations. If necessary, the Survey Manager's tasks may include similar areas of responsibility as the assistant survey managers.

The tasks include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the operational work with the SOM Institute's panels and ensuring an efficient organization for the data collection work.
  • Ensuring that documentation and procedures for the implementation of the survey activity are current and up-to-date.
  • Leading, coordinating, and quality-assuring the work of assistant survey managers.
  • Representing the SOM Institute in collaboration projects and being responsible for quality review of research collaboration with the SOM Institute's panels.
  • Being responsible for and planning the work with method analyses and quality follow-up of data collections.
  • Coordinating and planning the work with analyses, reports, and presentations.
  • Presenting the SOM Institute, our survey activity, and survey results at various events.

These tasks require a deep understanding of research processes and data collection, as well as the ability to lead this type of work. We are looking for a driven and engaged person who can contribute to strengthening and developing our survey activity at the SOM Institute.
