Strong research and attractive education attract researchers and students from all over the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, Gothenburg University contributes to a better future.
About Us
The Department of Marine Sciences conducts research, education, and development related to the sea and its resources. The operations are based in Gothenburg, at the research stations Tjärnö Marine Laboratory and Kristineberg Centre for Marine Research and Innovation, as well as on the research vessel Skagerak. The Department of Marine Sciences is Sweden's most comprehensive environment for marine research and education and is one of the few such organizations in Europe. The department has an interdisciplinary breadth covering marine biology, marine chemistry, marine geology, marine cultural heritage, and oceanography, with research areas spanning geographically from the coast to the world's oceans. The department has approximately 150 employees, and the administrative unit currently consists of 16 employees distributed across finance, HR, study administration, communication, and reception. Our way of working is characterized by professionalism, efficiency, and service, and we work in new, bright office premises in the Natrium building on Medicinareberget in Gothenburg.
Tasks
As a Personnel Officer at the Department of Marine Sciences, you work consultatively, providing qualified knowledge support in personnel and labor law matters to the Dean, Administrative Director, and employees. The tasks include assisting the Dean and Administrative Director with recruitment, restructuring, salary formation, rehabilitation, MBL (Works Council Act) negotiations, and labor law issues. You will also handle ongoing personnel administrative work, such as processing personnel cases in the personnel system Primula, including leave, vacation, and employment contracts. You will disseminate information within the organization regarding personnel administrative matters and contribute to well-structured routines and working methods within the personnel area at the department. You perform the work independently in close collaboration with the Dean, Administrative Director, and others in the organization's operational support. Since the department also has staff at the research stations, travel to these locations is included in the employment as needed.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a university degree in HR/personnel/behavioral science and very good experience of the above-described tasks, for example within the higher education sector. Good knowledge of the Office package is a given, and experience working in Primula is meritorious.
As this is at times a challenging assignment, it is also a requirement that you have previous experience of working supportively with managers in broad HR matters. You also need to have previous experience of working together with trade union partners. Experience from public sector operations, especially handling restructuring and negotiation cases, is seen as an advantage.
In this role, you are required to have integrity, work in a trustworthy manner, and have an easy time building good relationships. It is important that you are service-oriented and have a well-developed communication skill. Being able to work proactively and contribute to the improvement of processes, routines, and a good work climate is also important for the employment. We assume that you have good collaboration skills as you will work together with another Personnel Officer and other employees in the operational support. You must have very good skills in communicating both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
