In the spring of 2017, Falu Municipality, together with other principal authorities in and outside Dalarna, initiated a collaboration with Dalarna University with the aim of increasing the number of qualified teachers in our schools. Based on a carefully conducted inventory, we decided to offer a unique opportunity for motivated students to obtain a teaching degree by combining studies and work with a salary. Our initiative has proven to be well-received.

Now, a network-based, work-integrated subject teacher education for grades 7–9 with the subject combination of mathematics and physical education and health will also start in the autumn term of 2026. In the education, studies at 75% are combined with work as a teacher at a school at 50%. In this way, university studies can be related to own experiences from the pedagogical activity, while experiences from working as a teacher are valuable for the studies at the university. The education is network-based and structured so that teaching can be scheduled on two fixed days per week, and work at the school takes place on three fixed days per week. When you read the work-integrated subject teacher education for grades 7–9, you become qualified to teach mathematics as well as physical education and health.

The education consists of three parts:

• Subject studies including didactics in mathematics and physical education and health.
• Courses in the core of educational science, which among other things deal with teaching and learning, leadership, school organization, assessment, and social relations.
• Practice-based education at the school where you have your aspirant position.

• The salary is at least 18,900 SEK/month.
• You can apply for study support from CSN (the Swedish Board for Student Finance).
• You are attached to a teaching position in Falu Municipality throughout the study period.
• The teaching contract is renewed once a year, provided there is mutual interest.
• The employment consists of 50% teaching at the school and 75% study pace for the primary teacher program.
• After completing the studies, you can apply for teacher certification.

Teaching Aspirant

By studying and working simultaneously, you can finance your teacher education without needing to take loans. You also receive a unique education, which, thanks to the combination of theory and practical work, gives you an enviable head start. The program is aimed at you who work or want to work as a teacher in grades 7–9 of the compulsory school in the subjects of physical education and health as well as mathematics.

Personal qualities and experience:

We are looking for you who handle challenges in a positive and solution-focused way. Your good ability to work individually as well as in a group is crucial for success in the role. You possess leadership deemed suitable for the role of a teacher and have the ability to reflect on your own learning and teaching style. You have good ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Finally, we place great emphasis on experience of working as an unqualified teacher, substitute, or other role within the school.

1. Apply to Dalarna University, subject teacher program orientation compulsory school grades 7–9, mathematics and physical education and health work-integrated education. Application takes place during the period February 15 to March 16, 2026. Selection is based on upper secondary school grades or results from the higher education entrance test. Application is made via antagning.se. Admission decision in April 2026. The education starts in autumn 2026, week 36.
2. Apply now for the position to Falu Municipality, but no later than April 24. The employment begins August 10, 2026.
