The Department of Law at Stockholm University is advertising a postdoctoral position in legal informatics. The position is part of the WASP-HS research program (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanity and Society) and is located at the Department of Law.

Project Description

Stockholm University is building a strong and dynamic environment for legal research on artificial intelligence (AI) and holds a leading position in Sweden and the Nordic region. The position is linked to the WASP-HS research cluster The Rule of AI – AI, Regulation, and Society.

The vision for WASP-HS is to promote new interdisciplinary knowledge within the humanities and social sciences regarding AI and autonomous systems, as well as their impact on humans and societal development. The research cluster, led by Uppsala University, Örebro University, and Stockholm University, studies how AI is reshaping regulatory processes, focusing on the design, supervision, and compliance of regulations.

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the cluster and based at the Department of Law, but will design and carry out their postdoctoral project independently.

Responsibilities

A postdoctoral researcher should primarily devote their time to independent postdoctoral research for three years on a full-time basis. Other duties may include teaching students, working in teaching teams, and administration, comprising no more than 20% of the position.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a relevant doctoral degree is required. The degree must be completed no later than when the employment decision is made.

Selection Criteria

It is meritorious if the doctoral degree or equivalent was completed no more than three years before the application deadline. Applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree in a social science or humanities subject and possess sufficient knowledge of Swedish or English.

During the selection process, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency. The assessment focuses on the project description and other relevant scientific written material. Analytical ability, the capacity to structure material, and the ability to work independently on the proposed project, as well as the scientific value of the project, are decisive. Practical and/or theoretical experience in legal informatics, particularly in relation to AI, is meritorious.

About the Position

The position is full-time and fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. The start date is January 1, 2027, or as agreed.
