Statens institutionsstyrelse (SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually adapted compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS also implements closed youth care. We do this at youth homes and homes for adults with substance abuse issues across the country. Working with us at SiS makes your professional life an exciting challenge. Regardless of where you work in our organization or what role you have, you help create life-changing change.

SiS Youth Home Sundbo, located outside Fagersta, receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues, criminality, and substance abuse. We are tasked with providing care for young people with special care needs and receive boys who have been sentenced to closed youth care (LSU).

Job Description

Do you want to be part of creating life-changing change for vulnerable people? Then the role of School and Activity Coordinator at SiS is a meaningful challenge.

As a School and Activity Coordinator on our discharge and pre-discharge preparation unit, you will become an important part of the young person's path toward a more independent life. The unit is part of the institution, but you work closely with the young people in their daily lives in housing outside the institutional grounds. You work together with treatment pedagogues and a group leader on the unit and are part of the multidisciplinary treatment team. The unit is led by a unit manager. Your direct supervisor is the principal of the youth home's school. Together, you are responsible for ensuring that the young people living with us receive the security, care, and treatment they need.

The unit is an open treatment unit and an important part of SiS's internal care chain, which aims for a gradual and structured transition from care in an institutional environment to more open forms. The focus is on supporting the young person to establish and maintain functioning strategies and skills for life after placement at SiS. Treatment activities consist mainly of skills training aimed at preparing the young person for a functioning life after discharge, both practically and socially. The work may also involve other units at the youth home.

The School and Activity Coordinator's task is to procure, coordinate, plan, and follow up on schooling, leisure activities, internships, summer jobs, and other interventions and activities in the municipality of residence for the placed young people on the unit. This also includes supporting and following up with the young people in these areas.

This is a job for you who sees a positive challenge in working with vulnerable children and young people who are on their way back to a life outside the youth home. The job is often demanding but also stimulating, joyful, and varied.

Our vision is to be a place for change, and this permeates our approach, our engagement, and our attitude.

Working hours are primarily during office hours, but evening work may occur.

Qualifications

Appropriate higher education such as School Counselor (SYV), teacher, social worker/social pedagogue, or other equivalent higher education, alternatively a 2-year university college degree, such as youth worker, combined with substantial experience of working within schools.

You must also have:

  • Experience of working within schools.
  • Experience of working in activities focusing on internships and leisure time for the target group.
  • Experience of motivational work, collaboration, and coordination of interventions for children and young people regarding schooling, internships, and leisure activities.
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both written and orally.

Great importance is attached to personal qualities and abilities.
