We are seeking an experienced Special Educator
We are looking for an experienced Special Educator (100%) for overarching and coordinating work in the journey towards an accessible learning environment, higher goal achievement, and increased attendance. We seek a special educator who sees opportunities and development rather than difficulties.
Responsibilities
The work involves making learning accessible and following up on interventions and development projects at the school, group, and individual levels for affected students. You will actively collaborate with the school leadership on data-driven school development, follow up on goal achievement, and identify areas for development.
You are responsible for the school's preparation and follow-up of pedagogical investigations, action plans with relevant stakeholders, applications for additional funding, and pedagogical assessments for applications to other school forms. You are knowledgeable about the School Act's regulations regarding support measures and related legal areas.
Students' knowledge development is followed up regularly at the school and group levels. In collaboration with the deputy principal, you are responsible for coordinating support measures and leading discussions with relevant parties to achieve functional and sustainable support for students in need.
You must be able to mentor and conduct result-oriented observations of your colleagues – including school leaders, the Student Health Team (EHT), and teachers – in a trusting and respectful manner. The goal is to help them find functional and sustainable approaches for students who struggle to meet knowledge requirements and/or groups that challenge a good working atmosphere and development.
Qualifications
You are a certified teacher with a degree in special education and several years of work experience in schools. You are recognized as an expert in your field and have a documented history of increasing goal achievement and attendance for students in need of special support. Previous experience as a lead teacher (förstelärare) and/or as a school leader is an asset.
The role of Special Educator with us means that, in close collaboration with the principal, you are the hub for systematic decisions and development work towards an accessible learning environment. The work involves creating a consistent thread and contributing to a balance between school culture and care culture.
The work is carried out in close cooperation with the school's deputy principals, special teachers, EHT, and teachers. The school has a local student health plan with an associated activity description and resource allocation, with the principal as the core of the EHT work.
You are responsible for documenting these mentoring sessions in the intended documents with high quality and clarity, sharing the information with the student health team, school leadership, and other relevant parties. You ensure that follow-ups resulting from, for example, action plans or pedagogical investigations are followed up independently and systematically with guardians and other relevant parties. You ensure that necessary information about a student, regarding both knowledge and social development, is shared with those involved.
We are looking for a special educator with a well-developed and communicative ability, both orally and in writing, who can also win the trust of your colleagues. Your mentoring is carried out with great respect for people's different abilities, and you succeed in encouraging others to dare to take new steps in their development.
You have a positive view of students, always put the student's best interests first, do not compromise on their needs, and have the creative ability to find functional solutions. Your administrative skills are well-developed; you are organized, keep your documents in order, and ensure they are archived in the intended places.
IES works with documentation in Prorenata. You easily adapt to digitalized systems to be able to perform your work with good results.
Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) is a leading independent school group with academic results far above average and a diverse and energetic staff. Teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English, and the hallways are bilingual. The language of meetings and communication amongst the staff is English.
IES is one of Sweden's largest school groups at the compulsory school level with 48 schools and around 32,000 students across the country. IES has grown steadily and maintained quality since 1993.
N.B. Prior to any offer of employment at IES, a criminal background check is required for all applicants. In Sweden, this is an extract from the criminal register (belastningsregistret) from the Police Authority, and from abroad, this is a record extract from an equivalent police governing body.
