Temporary Officer for Sweden's Work with UNESCO's Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

The Institute for Language and Folklore (Isof) is a government agency with a mission to build and disseminate knowledge about language and cultural heritage. We are experts in the Swedish language, national minority languages, Swedish sign language, dialects, names, and folklore.

Isof has a mandate from the government to coordinate and develop Sweden's work with UNESCO's Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. We also operate internationally on issues related to the convention.

Our work includes creating national networks and forms of collaboration, disseminating knowledge about the convention, building knowledge about the convention in an international context, creating Nordic cooperation, and expanding the Swedish listing work.

We are now looking for a temporary officer based in Gothenburg to work with the national inventory of intangible cultural heritage and the website Living Cultural Heritage (https://levandekulturarv.se (https://levandekulturarv.se)).

The Assignment

In collaboration with Isof's senior advisors, you will work with the national inventory of intangible cultural heritage and the website Living Cultural Heritage (https://levandekulturarv.se (https://levandekulturarv.se)). The work consists of:

• In collaboration with proposers, finalize materials for the national inventory of intangible cultural heritage.
• Draft various types of texts for the website Living Cultural Heritage.
• Assist with other work in the department as needed.

Your Background

A requirement is that you have at least a master's degree in ethnology, history, or subjects that Isof deems relevant. Furthermore, you have excellent skills in expressing yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and documented experience in writing texts of various kinds. You should also have good knowledge and experience working with intangible cultural heritage.

It is advantageous if you hold a doctorate in subjects that Isof deems relevant and have experience working within the framework of UNESCO's Convention on the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The officer position is a temporary appointment and runs from 2026-03-01 to 2026-06-30, covering 30–50% of working hours as agreed.
